If you haven’t seen Big Little Lies you’ve probably heard about it at least and the fact that Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon were two of the most prominent stars. Coming soon however Kidman and Witherspoon will be landing new TV projects that will continue their dominance on the small screen. The transition is something that a lot of people might have been surprised to see, but barring any miraculous comeback to the big screen for any extended period of time this will be where you get to see them the most. A lot of actors have made such a transition after having found success in films only to see their popularity wane as the years roll on. But it’s also been a sign of maturity to start transitioning to smaller venues as the older actors give way to the newer, upcoming stars in a cycle that continually showcases just how Hollywood works when it comes to its most talented individuals.
Kidman will be starring in an HBO production titled The Undoing, which will showcase Kidman as a successful therapist looking to publish her first book. Her life begins to fall apart however when she encounters a violent death and a missing husband. These events will force her to take her son and try to salvage whatever life she can in an attempt to push forward. Like Big Little Lies this will be a mystery series that will have Kidman front and center. As of now it seems that both Kidman and Witherspoon are firmly entrenched in the mystery genre and are putting down some very strong roots as they begin to branch out with their TV careers.
Witherspoon will be producing and starring in a series that will be coming to Hulu titled Little Fires Everywhere and will costar Kerry Washington from the show Scandal. This series will showcase the Richardson family, who look perfect on the outside but are easily upset when a mother and daughter rent a home from them and matters begin to get a little weird. The series will be kind of a mystery thriller as well, which goes along with the transition being made from Big Little Lies. Both Kidman and Witherspoon currently have multiple projects going on at different companies so it’s obvious they’re staying busy, but it’s just as obvious that they’re laying down some very strong ties to TV and don’t seem to be rushing back to the big screen any time soon.
Both women have matured a great deal in their careers and it shows in their acting as well as their capability to carry on a series rather than just completing a movie and then moving on to the next. The act of committing to a TV series, even a limited one, seems far more draining as so much more would be expected of an actor as they would need to be constantly available to film their scenes. In a movie at least the project is over at some point and the actors can move on. But for Kidman and Witherspoon this really seems like it might be where they belong now.
