Nicolas Cage is Finally Getting his Shot to Play Superman

Nicolas Cage is finally getting what he wanted, just not the way he initially wanted it. He’ll be getting his shot to play Superman in the upcoming movie Teen Titans Go! To Movies this coming July, when he’ll be playing the voice of the man of steel. He was originally supposed to be playing the role of Superman in the Tim Burton version of the movie that was slated to come out in 90’s, but it was eventually scrapped and Cage lost out on his shot. Obviously he’s been in plenty of movies since then and has become known for a lot of different roles, including one superhero that was far different than the man of steel, the Ghost Rider.

Still, at least he gets to have something to do with Superman finally, which is kind of nice since he did happen to name his son Kal-El. That’s how much of a Superman fan Cage is, that he would name one of his kids after the fictional character. You can say he’s a bit off his rocker or even has a few screws loose but the guy’s a fan all the same, which means he’s been dying to play this kind of part for quite some time. There’s no telling if he’s going to nail it or if it’s going to sound too much like his usual self to really belong in the DC universe, but at this point all we can do is wait and see. The fact is that Cage’s voice is very distinctive and doesn’t really sound like the upright and virtuous voice of Superman. But it’s always possible that Cage will find his inner man of steel and be able to nail the par as it should be done.

The movie is going to be an adaptation of the TV show of the same name and will also feature James Corden as Balloon Man and Halsey as Wonder Woman. There’s no word just yet on who will be playing the other roles in the movie but likely as not they will be gathering a cast that is similar to if not the same as that which is featured in the TV version of the show. The chances are that we might hear the same voices just to keep some sense of continuity for the fans that frequently watch the TV program. But it looks as though there might be a few other characters that have yet to join the cast that will be needing additional voice actors to step in.

It might not be the shot he was hoping for but perhaps that’s kind of a good thing since while Cage is a great actor he’s not the typical Superman type that many people would think of adding into the role. He can act, there’s no doubt of that, but the look he brings and the look that people are used to seeing in Superman are just not the same. Hopefully his voice can wow where his appearance did not.
