When you think of the amount of movies Nicolas Cage has been in not to mention the variety it’s easy to assume this guy isn’t picky at all when it comes to the roles he chooses. Plus when you want to buy stuff like dinosaur fossils and other super weird items that Mr. Cage owns, you take whatever money you can get to live a lavish lifestyle. So during the 90s when Laura Dern was offered a role in Jurassic Park she decided to consult her friend Nicolas Cage on the potential gig. Dern recently revealed that it was Cage who actually convinced her to take the part of Ellie Sattler.
For guy like Nicolas Cage it was a no brainer because well, Cage is kind of weird. But for Dern at the time, the idea of being in a dinosaur movie was obviously a little strange. She was just coming off of Rambling Rose, a movie set in the Great Depression. But as Dern tells us, once she got the go ahead from Nicolas Cage, the movie was a go. Here’s what Dern said.
I said, ‘Well,’ Steven Spielberg offered me a movie.’ And he said, ‘What. Movie.’ I started to describe it, and he says, ‘Wait. You get to do a movie where dinosaurs are your costars?! How do I get on that movie? Who can I pay to be part of that movie? Those are the co-stars I’ve always wanted!’
Sounds exactly like something Cage would say. Could you imagine Nicolas Cage in Jurassic Park though? I cannot.
