The old Mythbusters television show was designed to make people better understand what science is all about. It accomplished that goal very well, indeed. In fact, the show ran for fourteen glorious seasons on the Discovery channel and it is likely responsible for getting younger audiences truly interested in science. The thing that made the show unique was that it was capable of getting people interested in science when they otherwise might not have really cared.
Therefore, when the show went off the air, the Science channel made the decision to make new episodes, only with different hosts. That left a lot of people excited, but there were more than a few who wondered just how exactly the two shows would compare to each other. The truth is, there is a lot about the new show that is very similar to the old one. However, there are some key differences, namely the fact that the hosts are different. Jon Lung and Brian Louden have a lot to live up to when facing off against Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. Now it’s time to see how each show stacks up against the other.
Aside from the scientific experiments, the thing most people seemed to like about the original Mythbusters were Savage and Hyneman. In fact, a lot of individuals seemed to think that the two had a lot of chemistry when working together, although it was always apparent to at least a few that these two really didn’t like each other. It seems that was the problem all along. These two weren’t getting along and it finally got to the point where they didn’t want to work together at all anymore. For the fans of the show that were really paying attention, this should not have come as a surprise. It was really quite obvious for a number of years.
That being said, how does the new show compare? It seems that everything still centers around the hosts. For all intents and purposes, the scientific experiments are largely the same. However, many fans of the show feel like there is a lack of chemistry between Lung and Louden. The most important thing to remember is that this show is still relatively new, and they will likely develop chemistry as the show continues. For anyone who was watching the interactions between the two original hosts, it is actually rather refreshing to watch some new people carrying out these experiments. They may not have on-screen chemistry just yet, but they also don’t have that friction you could always see rubbing just under the surface with the two original hosts.
When it is all said and done, viewers will ultimately have to decide for themselves. Without a doubt, some people will love it and others will want nothing to do with it, if for no other reason than it is different. As far as its ability to hold its own when compared to the original television show, it does just fine. The scientific experiments are solid and the show should inspire yet another generation of people who think science is worth their interest as opposed to just being a class in school they have to suffer through.
