Netflix has set the fourth season premiere date for Grace and Frankie. It will premiere globally on Friday, January 19. Just like the previous seasons, it is expected to be consist of thirteen episodes. The third season premiered last March to positive reviews and received four Emmy nominations.
Jane Fonda (Grace) and Lily Tomlin (Frankie) star as two women whose lives are turned upside down when their husbands reveal they are gay and leave them for each other. Both sparring partners and partners-in-crime, Grace and Frankie form an unlikely and unbreakable bond and face their uncertain futures head-on, hand-in-hand. Together with their ex-husbands and children, they discover the true definition of “family,” with laughter, tears, and plenty of mood enhancers along the way.
Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, June Diane Raphael, Baron Vaughn, Brooklyn Decker, and Ethan Embry co-star in the series. Lisa Kudrow joins the season for a recurring role. Netflix hasn’t provided any details about the character. The series is co-created by Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris.
In a panel during the ATX Television Festival last June, Kauffman said that the fourth season will be “really about the women coming to terms with age, coming to terms with how old they are, where their bodies are at this point, where their minds are at this point and what does that imply, what does that mean?”
During the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards, Grace and Frankie receives four nominations including two Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series nods for both Fonda and Tomlin. They reunited with their 9 to 5 co-star Dolly Parton during the ceremony. It is unknown as of now if Parton will ever appear on the show but there are plans for her to guest star in an episode soon as long as it will not conflict with her schedule.
