NBC News To Launch Its Own Coverage of the Media Industry

These days, it can be difficult to know when you read or hear the news exactly how much of that is really news and how much of it is being spun in a particular direction in order to sway popular opinion. Many individuals within the general public have become extremely disillusioned with the very idea of watching the news, largely because they feel like they are being duped every time they tune in.

This has become a major problem, not only for the public-at-large, but also for the news industry itself. As fewer individuals trust various news outlets that were once respected, fewer people are paying attention to these outlets. Therefore, many of them are in danger of going by the wayside. Realizing their own vulnerability, many of these news outlets have made the decision to step up to the plate and do something about it themselves. As such, a lot of these companies are not just reporting the news, but also doing their own research and validating everything beforehand.

NBC News is one of the more notable companies that is doing exactly that. In fact, it recently reported that it is to launch its own coverage of the media industry. In other words, NBC will not merely be reporting on newsworthy items, but it will also be monitoring its own industry. Without a doubt, the powers-that-be at NBC have made the decision to do this for their own good. The more the industry is monitored and policed, the less likely it is that things will be reported that can later be proved to be false. This is something that could damage a news outlet beyond repair and cause it to completely disappear, practically overnight. Obviously, the major news outlets do not want this to happen so they are willing to do whatever they have to do in order to make sure that people find a way to trust the news once again.

To that end, NBC has made the decision to create this entirely new department and hire a multitude of individuals in order to staff it. Claire Atkinson, a former employee of the New York Post, will be in charge of things. As you can see, NBC is striving for not only transparency, but also trust. This is the reason they have created this department and why they are heading it up with individuals that already have an impeccable reputation.

One thing is certain, there is nothing that can fix the news industry overnight. It is going to take a great deal of time and effort before the general public is able to trust any particular news outlet fully again. However, many people do see this as a step in the right direction. Some companies have already taken similar steps and the decision by NBC to do the same will almost certainly cause other major news outlets to do something different as well. Perhaps there will be a point in the future where people can once again listen to the news and trust the things that have been reported as being true and correct.
