Nathan Fillion Will Be in Suicide Squad with a Secret Role

Nathan Fillion The Rookie

Ever get the impression that Nathan Fillion is given roles that don’t quite allow him to live up to his stature at times? Ryan Scott of MovieWeb alludes to this when it comes to the role that he had in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy since it would seem that he was brought in to voice one of the aliens in the prison that the Guardians busted out of. That could be why some folks are wondering if he’s going to be used in the same capacity in the Suicide Squad sequel or if he’s going to be given a bigger role. So far things are moving along as they should it would seem and the pieces are continually being set in order to bring the movie closer and closer the production stage. But at this point the only thing that’s known about Fillion is that he’s going to be in the movie, but no one knows where or as who just yet.

It’s kind of easy to forget just how much Fillion has done in his career but if you take a look at his resume you’ll see that he’s been quite prominent in a lot of features, even if he’s been just a bit or support player. As an actor he’s done just about everything voice work to playing the lead, which is indicative of how solid an actor he really is. But thinking of where he might fit in when it comes to the Suicide Squad is a little difficult since you don’t expect Flagg to be replaced and while some of the squad won’t be returning it’s a good question as to who they’re going to pick from the villains list to round out the team. After all the Suicide Squad’s roster has changed before so it would seem that getting new faces in the next movie shouldn’t be much of a surprise. But where Fillion fits is going to be interesting for many people. It’s kind of hard to see him as a villain since in a lot of ways he comes off more as the everyman that a person would rather be friends with than anyone that’s truly diabolical.

Dirk Libbey from CinemaBlend does remind us that it’s going to be another two years at least before we see the next Suicide Squad movie in the theaters, so between now and then we’re bound to come up with one theory after another and will likely hear about ‘leaked’ footage or rumors that tend to crop up like daisies now and again. The overall secret of who Fillion is going to play and what kind of impact he’s going to have will likely come out long before the movie since secrets like this aren’t really able to be kept all that often and even when someone tries it becomes difficult to keep it to themselves. Facts and rumors have a way of getting out and it’s likely that this will happen in the next two years to come. Why? Oh, experience, the laws of human nature, and the always popular idea that once something is being kept a secret it’s bound to come out anyway since human beings are imperfect and can’t keep a lot of things to themselves for that long. Plus, Gunn will likely want to stoke interest in the movie as time goes on, and might even keep Fillion’s involvement as hidden away as he can until the last second reveal. Once the trailers are released it might be easy to pick him out, but until then mum is the word since it would seem that Gunn wants to surprise folks.

The hope of course is that Nathan ends up getting a role that’s commensurate with his status and talent since he is the kind of guy that has a long resume and a lot of history in the business and can get things done in a satisfactory to very efficient manner when asked to do so. He’s not quite the always popular action star that a few other actors are but he’s a very solid character and someone that can be relied upon to do his part and make it work within the context of the entire project. In other words it’s easy to believe his performance and look at it from an objective and subjective viewpoint and claim that it’s something great enough to allow people to relate with him. In the Suicide Squad sequel this might not be the case since it’s kind of difficult to relate to anyone in these types of movies, but given that he’s able to make even the most vile characters he plays seem absolutely believable it’s therefore easy to think that whatever role he’s in it will be something that is well within his wheelhouse.
