It’s finally arrived country fans! After a very long hiatus of almost four months, Nashville returns tonight. For months (and years) we’ve waited for Country Queen Rayna James to wed her longtime love Deacon Claybourne, and tonight the destined couple will finally say “I Do”. But before the most romantic wedding in recent country history can take place, let’s take a look back at where we left our characters.
After months of destructive behavior, Juliette sought help for her postpartum depression. By this point she’d burned through all of her chances with now ex-husband Avery and given him sole custody of their daughter Cadence. However while in treatment Juliette made a request to see her daughter again, which Avery begrudgingly agreed to. Juliette’s portrayer Hayden Panetierre will return from her own treatment for postpartum depression in upcoming episodes.
Mercifully Scarlett’s relationship with her boyfriend (whose existence was so tedious I don’t recall his name) has ended. After losing her mother, cutting off her hair (per a beautiful personal decision by portrayer Clare Bowen), and finding her strongest voice, the sky seems to be the limit for Scarlett.
Following sister Beverly’s death Deacon decided to open a bar. He’s balancing a new business, and the day-to-day home life with Rayna, including the raising of an increasingly bratty teenage Maddie. Rayna has been working very hard to put her label Highway 65 at the top of the country charts. She attempted to do this with rock bad boy Markus Keen, but he proved to be too much of a wild card who didn’t know what boundaries were. Now that Rayna and Deacon are about to embark on their journey of domestic bliss, they’ll also have to deal with the reality of raising a teenager. Oh what fun!
Whatever drama ensues and whatever challenges life throws at these country stars, there’s one thing that won’t change: the music. What will inspire the next great country song?
Tune in to ABC tonight for the Midseason Premiere of Nashville.
