Obscure Movie Characters I Love: Richardson in “Hot Rod”

I’m not sure if I’ve ever really professed my fondness for the movie Hot Rod on this website but it’s always been one of my favorite comedies.  And when I say favorite I’d probably give it a top 20 rating on an all-time list.  Considering how many comedies have been made, that’s a very generous rating.  But in all honesty the movie deserves it.  I think one of the reasons it wasn’t more of a cult classic is because the comedy in the film is much more “random SNL stuff” and even “the kind of comedy that Norm McDonald would like” than anything else.

The movie is full of weird moments, random insertions of characters that make zero sense, and flat out “where did that come from?” stuff.  If you like that comedy you’ll love Hot Rod.  If not you’ll think it’s just another dumb movie.   Among some of the best, most random moments in the movie is a sequence involving a character named “Richardson” who is played by Chester Tam.

It’s a scene where Rod and his team are trying to raise money and Richardson is out passing out flyers.  He has a little dance that he likes to do and needless to say it’s one of my favorite sequences in any comedy ever.  Here’s to you Richardson!
