Hillary Swank is the kind of actor that comes and goes it seems since she hasn’t really been seen in much lately. It’s not too surprising that there are movies that people don’t remember her being in, largely because they might not remember the movies at all. There was a point and time when her career was on a seriously high note, and then she just went away for a while. The sad part is that for all the movies she’s done only a few have ever really got her that much positive attention. She’s a great actor to be honest but the movies she stars in sometimes just don’t go the way they need to.
It’s been like that for a while with a lot of actors.
5. The Next Karate Kid
This was kind of forgettable since the Karate Kid franchise had been left alone by fans after the third one failed to really draw much of a crowd. A lot of people didn’t want to deal with a whole new prospect when it came to Mr. Miyagi training another kid. Plus, martial arts movies were starting to move in a very upwards direction at this point and the action sequences just weren’t enough to keep the audience’s attention.
4. The Gift
She had a slight presence in this one but it was the neighborhood nut that people tend to stay away from just because she’s a bit neurotic and doesn’t really socialize all that well with others. It had a lot do with the fact that her character had a very abusive husband and had been beaten both physically and emotionally into submission.
3. The Reaping
It’s kind of surprising that she was so forgettable in this one since she was the lead character. But the entire film was something that people tended to want to forget since it didn’t get the best reviews and was thought to be not even a flash in the pan when it came to its success rate. In short it was kind of more like an errant spark since it was there and gone before anyone had ever heard of it.
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
There are a lot of people in this movie that were easy to forget largely because it was centered around Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry and because it wasn’t much of a movie despite reaching cult classic status. Swank plays a preppy valley girl that’s really not that great when it comes to her part in the movie. Seriously, her parts could have been cut out and no one would have noticed.
1. Insomnia
This one is kind of forgettable largely because it’s not much of a movie despite the fact that it had two of the greatest actors ever starring in opposite roles. Robin Williams and Al Pacino kind of overshadowed Swank in this picture. She definitely tried to put herself in the middle but her part was just too far outside and to the right to really contend on this one.
She’s a great actress really, but she gets overshadowed too easily by mid to high-level talent.
