10 Things You Didn’t Know about Monster Musume

What do you know about the Japanese light novels known by the name Monster Musume? This is undoubtedly one of the more popular titles of its type and as such, more people have a tendency to be a little more familiar with this particular story than they might be with others. That being said, there may be plenty of things that you’re not completely familiar with and if that’s the case, you can learn more by reading about the following 10 things.

1. It’s written and illustrated by the same person

More often than not, you see these types of stories being written by one person and illustrated by someone completely different. In this particular case, all of the writing and illustrating is done by the same person. That person is none other than Okayado, the famous individual who is well known for creating some of the best Japanese light novels ever completed.

2. It’s published in a monthly magazine

Several years ago, the light novels were turned into manga and to this day, the story is published in a monthly magazine. This is typically the first step in adapting something for a number of other platforms and that is precisely the path this particular story has followed. More will be discussed about that in the following paragraphs.

3. The story is published in two countries

This is not a story that is only published in Japan. As a matter of fact, it is simultaneously published in both Japan and the United States by two different publishing companies. That should tell you something about the popularity of the story itself.

4. There are a number of volumes when it comes to base material

Right now, there are no less than 14 volumes of light novels. That provides a great deal of material to base more stories on, especially when you consider the fact that the anime adaptation is basically in its infancy. In short, the sky’s the limit when it comes to creating stories based around this title.

5. It was adapted for an anime series

More recently, it was adapted for an anime series but so far, only two episodes of that series have actually aired. That means that there’s a lot more that can be done with the story. Although final plans haven’t been made, many people are optimistic that they will continue to make additional anime episodes in the future.

6. It was also turned into a video game

As is the case with some of the more popular manga stories, this one also became a video game. It was released shortly after the first anime episode came out.

7. Fans have been following the story for a few years now

This is a story that has been circulating for about three years now. When you compare it to other stories in this genre, three years is not very long at all. Some of the stories that haven’t really seen any more success than this one have been around for more than 10 years. It is largely because of the quality of the story itself that this one has done so well in a relatively short time.

8. Many of the volumes have been published in another language

As previously mentioned, this is a story that is published in both Japan and the United States. Sometimes, it takes a little bit of time for the United States publications to catch up. However, a great deal of material is available. Out of the 14 volumes of light novels, 13 of them have been published in English so far. Obviously, one would think that it will only be a matter of time until the fourteenth one also follows suit.

9. Fans hope there will be more anime

Since there have only been two episodes of the anime series that have been released, fans are certainly hoping that there will be more to follow. Sometimes, these types of projects can take a while so the fact that it’s been a fairly long hiatus since the last episode doesn’t really mean that more won’t be coming in the future. However, it does mean that fans will have to be patient.

10. The story’s author uses a pen name

The author does not use his real name on his works, but most people are aware of it anyway. In case you don’t already know, his name is Takemaru Inui.
