Rolling Stone’s bandmates Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have always had an up and down relationship, and this was apparent after Jagger became a father again for the eighth time at the age of 73. Keith Richards rocked the boat by making some rather derogatory comments about the situation, leading to the necessity for him to make a full public and personal apology for what he had said.
Jagger’s eighth child was born on December 8, 2016. He had this child with ballerina Melanie Hamrick as he had started a relationship with her after the tragic death of his long-time girlfriend L’Wren Scott. Jagger and Hamrick called their son Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger. At the time of his son’s birth, Jagger explained that they had chosen Octavian as one of his middle names as he was the eighth of Jagger’s children.
Richards made comments about the birth of his son in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. He had said that it was about time that Jagger got the snip to prevent him from having more children at his age as he didn’t think it was fair on the children.
After making these comments, he took to Twitter to make a formal apology in public and admitted that he should never have made those comments. He went on to tweet that he had also made a personal apology to Jagger for the things that he had said.
However, his interview was not all full of negative remarks about Jagger. In the same interview with the Wall Street Journal, Richards had plenty of good things to say about his bandmate, too. He referred to the ups and downs they have experienced in their relationship over the years but said that you wouldn’t find a better frontman for a band than Jagger.
It’s probable that Jagger is used to hearing negative comments about his private life as his relationships have attracted a lot of media attention and speculation over the years. There has been a particular focus on the fact that he has fathered eight children with five different women and enjoyed multiple other relationships in between.
His first child, Karis Hunt Jagger, was born in 1970. Her mother is Marsha Hunt and Karis was the only child they had together. In 1971, Bianca Jagger gave birth to Jagger’s second daughter, Jade Sheena Jezebel Jagger.
Mick Jagger’s longest relationship was with model Jerry Hall and they had four children together. Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Scarlett was born in 1984, followed by James Leroy Augustin in 1985. Their third child, Georgia May Ayeesha, was born in 1992, followed by their fourth and final child, Gabriel Luke Beauregard, in 1997.
Hall and Jagger split after it was revealed that the rock star has an affair with Brazilian model Luciana Gimenez Morad. She gave birth to their son Lucas Maurice Morad Jagger, in 1999. Jagger then took quite a break from making babies before his eighth child was born in December 2016
Jagger has not publicly responded to the comments made by Richards with regards to his being an older father. However, these two have had plenty of spats in the past and always made up, so Jagger is probably willing to put this one behind him.
