The ghost in “Being Human” and a gig on “Hawaii Five-o” have made Meaghan Rath one of the more recognizable names on television. She also did “Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life” for Fox, and has several other TV acting roles to her credit. But success did not come easy for her, as she said that in her 20’s she was just trying to find the right mix between having a good time and coming out at the other end alive. Whether plating Sally in “Being Human” or Tani Rey in “Hawaii Five-O”, Meaghan has discovered the way to do both drama and comedy, and come out of the other end OK.
Here are some things you may have not known about this rising star.
1. She has a definite list of girl crushes.
Those who made the list include Amy Schumer, Emily Blunt, Alicia Vikander, Margot Robbie, and Amber Heard. This is a pretty wide variety of talent, especially when some people consider Schumer to be somewhat talentless when it comes to acting. But then you have Emily Blunt and Margot Robbie, who seems to be getting better with every movie she does. So it seems like a good mix to admire.
2. She thought that comedy was her acting strong suit.
After doing Fox’s “Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life” she admits that despite getting her stardom from “Being Human” it was inevitable that she would find her place doing a comedy series. She says that the combination of comedy and a love story works well for her, and though it isn’t clear what’s up next for her, we may see her laughing more — which is always a good thing.
3. She studied Cinema and Communications at Dawson College in Canada.
Originally from Montreal, she knew what she wanted to do for a career- kind of. She was asked how she felt about becoming a producer after all the acting experience she has piled up, and said that would be something she really wants to try. Maybe the road to her final career may be a crooked one, but we have yet to see whether or not the opportunity of being a producer will be what we or she expects of herself.
4. She hurt herself doing the final stunt on “Being Human.”
She is someone who, like many good actors, like doing their own stunts. The producers didn’t want her risking harm to hair or head of Meaghan, and had to draw some boundaries as the show went on. At the end of the series when she died, she convinced the producers to let her do that final fall down the stairs. Yep, she hurt herself, but not badly. What did the producers say? “We told you so.”
5. Her favorite sexy clothing is very casual and comfortable.
She looks great wearing almost anything, but Meaghan says she loves wearing leather pants, a flannel shirt, and boots to make her looking the sexiest. She calls it “her uniform.” The shirt must be loose fitting though, which is a sign of self-confidence. She says she feels and acts her best when she dresses comfortably, and if you browse through her pics on the Internet you can see that she has made some great choices.
6. She once lacked self-confidence.
Like many other actors and actresses, making it through the waves of people who are trying to get a part on a show or in a movie is nothing less than intimidating. She initially felt that she didn’t have much of a chance because of all the talented people she saw and met. In retrospect, she thinks she should have believed in herself more. She had put in the work and didn’t give herself credit enough that the hard work would pay off down the road. She said, “You sort of have to take a leap of faith.”
7. She has a bucket list.
It seems strange that a successful actress would have a bucket list at the ripe old age of 31. But in an interview with Maxim, she said she was dying to go skydiving. “For the love of God, somebody take me sky diving!” This actually makes sense when you remember that she is someone who always wants to do her own stunts.
8. There is a secret for a guy to get her attention.
Once you know her secret, then you are not likely going to be able to pick her up in a casual meeting. She says that having talent is the most attractive thing to her. Having gone through the acting gauntlet, she knows what it takes to be great at something. She is not likely to find that out about you unless she sees you at your best, doing what you do best.
9. She is uniquely bi-racial.
If you have great looks, thank your parents. It’s all about the genetics. Meaghan’s dad is part British and Austrian, and her mother’s family is from Goa, which is in southern India. She said that these unique ancestries made it difficult for her to get cast at first because she has such a different “look.”
10. Her favorite movie list is pretty unique as well.
She hates it when someone asks her for her favorite movie because, like many of us, it is impossible to say. When pressed for the list, she has action movies like “Goodfellas”, then there is “Mean Girls” and “Drag Me to Hell.” But she also likes “Annie Hall” and the movie she has watched the most is “Home Alone” (the first in the franchise). After seeing this list, having to pick one as her favorite is really unfair.
