Madam Secretary: Terrorist Bombs Matt’s Hometown. Henry visits Dmitri.

Madam Secretary

Who do people tend to blame when there is a terrorist bombing? The people from the Middle East. That’s what happened in tonight’s episode of Madam Secretary. Hence Matt is in hot water after revealing that he and the bomber attend the same mosque.

The speechwriter declined to give a statement to the press on account of he doesn’t want to nor does he have to. He didn’t do anything wrong. On top of that, the money he donates to the mosque is a children’s playground, not the bombing. Sometimes the media can spin things out of context and make mountains out of molehills.

When Russell Jackson told Matt to write a speech to help clear his name, the latter didn’t want to do it. I have to agree with him on this. Let’s say he gives the speech. What good will it do? It will just lead to more questions. That and the media digging into his history, putting their political spin on it. In the end, Matt did give a statement, but it was in front of the staff at the State Department, not in front of the cameras. Good on you, Mr. Mahoney.

The scene at the bar with Matt and Jay was touching. Bar fight aside, of course. Nadine asked Jay to take Matt out for a beer or two and Jay complied. Things were going well until a group of drunk Evans supporters got into Matt’s face. Jay tried to defend his friend’s honor, and a bar fight ensued. Who knew Matt could throw a punch? Good thing his glasses didn’t break in the scuffle.

While Matt dealt with his issues, Henry flew to Phoenix to see Dmitri. The former Russian captain is under witness protection. He has a new identity and a new job as tech support. Consequently, the young man is not exactly making a smooth transition. Dmitri wants to return to Washington to work for Intelligence, but Elizabeth promised the Russians that the U.S. wouldn’t use Dmitri as an asset anymore. At least Henry was able to arrange for Dmitri’s sister Talia to come and see her brother. The scene where Elizabeth was ranting at Henry for his going to Phoenix is a tad ironic. The countless times that Henry ranted at her about juggling her job and her personal life is now the other way around. I wonder if she even noticed the irony during her rant?

Matt’s name was finally cleared when the real culprit is brought to justice. It turns out that it was the Saudi Minister’s cousin Majeed Amjad. I don’t know what Amjad has against Americans. Maybe he wants to make some sort of statement himself? Either way, Elizabeth drove the point home in her private conversation with the Saudi Minister. Score one for the Secretary!

Furthermore, it was intriguing that Allison used her YouTube makeup tutorial video as the topic for her college application essay. The points that she made were intriguing as Henry praised his daughter’s writing toward the end of the episode. I guess it helps if both your parents have government jobs. Hope she can get into a good school and not end up living in her parents’ basement.
