Luna Lee has been performing on YouTube on her Korean Gayageum for a little while now and this medley of rock songs just continues to prove how awesome she is. Right from the start she goes into Born to Be Wild and you can hear every note strummed perfectly as her fingers work their magic. One can only imagine how much practice has to be put in to make the instrument make these sounds in such a precise and identifiable way. The dynamics for such an instrument don’t seem too difficult but obviously it would take some serious practice to really get used to which strings to pluck and in what manner to get the desired sound.
Come Together is just as awesome as the instrument puts its own distinctive spin on the music, creating a reverb effect that’s fascinating and makes it sound like an unplugged version of the song. Well, obviously it is but you get the idea. But listening to the song in this manner is hypnotic in a way, almost as though you’re hearing it for the first time and just can’t stop listening. It’s so elegant, so haunting, and yet so unique that you want to believe that if the Beatles or Aerosmith, or anyone for that matter, were to attempt to put lyrics to this then they would have to change in a very fundamental way.
Having to tune the Gayageum seems like it would take a very long and arduous amount of time, but to produce this kind of music and to be able to play Every Breath You Take seems like it would be worth it. The idea of making instruments way back in history seems to be a thing that involved a lot more fine finger work than today’s instruments manage to use. While a persons hands are used in the manipulation or the stability of just about every instrument ever made, this one still seems to stand out as one of those that really requires a deft and nimble set of fingers that can pluck, glide, and move about with a dexterity that is just uncanny. If you really break it down the language of music is not hard to figure out, so long as you have an ear for it and are able to discover the basic notes of music and how to manipulate them even further.
But teasing and plucking the strings in such a manner speaks of years of practice and a very deep level of dedication to the craft and the art form of music. Some people love what they do when it comes to music, but Luna Lee seems to live the music in a way that speaks of an appreciation that has no peer and is a love of the art that knows no boundaries. That kind of commitment to something is so impressive that just watching and listening to it seems like a privilege. It’s definitely the kind of music that can inspire and calm just about anyone it touches.
