One cannot alter time. Even if one succeeds, time will find a way to right itself. On the other hand, what if reality itself changes? On tonight’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow, we get a glimpse of that very reality.
The hour begins in present day Star City. Sara and Amaya are chasing after a vigilante through a warehouse. Imagine my surprise when the vigilante is none other than Felicity Smoak. That and Damien Darhk is the mayor instead of Oliver. Evil has triumphed over good and that, in the words of Happy Quinn, is not good. At least Team Legends are still alive and well. I mean, aside from the fact that they’re now working for the villains.
When Nate was brought in to S.T.A.R Labs, the entire scene was reminiscent of the first time the historian met Oliver at his office. Nate implored Eobard to help him fix reality, but we all know that the latter won’t do it. He’s the one who changed it in the first place. Yeah, you can’t reason with a bad guy, Dr. Heywood. The word is not part of their vocabularies.
Speaking of villains, Mick did a lot of double-crossing throughout the episode. The first time was when he and Snart were ordered to kill Nate. The former Legend regretted joining the Legion of Doom and sided with the good guys. My joy was for naught when the partial Team Legends told Mick that they couldn’t trust him. Yes, he managed to get most of the team back together, but Sara’s right. They wouldn’t be in this version of reality if Mick didn’t hand the Spear of Destiny into the wrong hands.
On a side note, Rip is pretty useless tonight. He spent most of the hour feeling sorry for himself and baking fancy cakes. It did provide some comedic relief, I’ll give him that, but as Gideon said, he is the captain of the ship, and he should act like it! Thank goodness for the AI who talked some sense into him. I hope that the distress signal he sent out can reach the Legends in time. That and Professor Stein can get his memories back.
One moment in this episode amused me greatly. Nate used the Spear to hurl Eobard to one end of the underground lab and almost high-fived Darhk. Shame that they are on opposite sides. It would’ve been a perfect moment. Oh, and Damien? Cut down on the bad guy monolog next time, will you? I get that you want to sound dramatic, but it would be time well spent if you just get to the point. Though I do give the guy points for using Laurel’s death as a test for Sara to make sure that she’s still on the dark side.
Back to the task at hand, the Legends almost got the chance to fix reality, but Snart froze Amaya and broke her into pieces of ice. So close and yet so far away. Eobard then managed to get back the Spear and threw it into the reactor that Professor Stein was working on, meaning this reality is now permanent. It cannot be rewritten again. Sara’s suggestion to go back in time to 1916 to stop the Legion from getting the Spear is a good one, but we all know what happens when one tries to manipulate time. Perhaps there is a better way to change things back. The question is: How?
