Everybody, and we do mean everybody, knows the ‘Star Wars’ theme song, and the other music that is iconically played throughout the franchise movies. They make a statement, and are classically timeless in that sense. The music was originally brought to us by renowned composer John Williams, who’s music has stretched over the course of forty years to bring these movies and storylines to life. However, the works of John Williams in collaboration with the ‘Star Wars’ saga may be coming to an end, as he hinted toward in a statement he made. In this article, we are going to discuss the vague remarks he made toward a possible retirement, and what the franchise may look like without the great John Williams behind the music.
Radio Interview
When John Williams was speaking with the KUSC radio station out of Los Angeles for an interview, he made the comments that sent the retirement speculations into play. While he is hoping to be working with J.J. Abrams for the upcoming ‘Episode IX’ film that will hit theaters next year, he said that it may just be his last project that he works on for the franchise. Although some of the other films that have been created already in recent years have also featured a few other composers, we still can’t imagine a complete ‘Star Wars’ film without any of the works of John Williams.
Spin Off Projects In The Works?
Although his work with the franchise may indeed be coming to an end, it doesn’t mean that John Williams is completely slowing down anytime soon. There have been other reports as well that have indicated that John Williams may have some works in the upcoming film ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’. If these assumptions are true, it would be the first ‘Star Wars’ spin off that Williams has worked on to date, as other spin offs, like ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, was composed by Michael Giacchino. We are sure that many of Williams fans wouldn’t mind seeing some of his work in these spin off films at all.
The music in the film is such an emotional and huge part of the story telling aspect; It allows the fans to have a deeper connection with the plotline and with the characters that they are experiencing on the screen. It makes it all the more saddening that this may indeed be the end of a legend and of a legacy when it comes to the music that so drastically made the ‘Star Wars’ saga an experience for every viewer out there. Although we aren’t entirely sure if the retirement is a go, we can’t anticipate that he will retire indefinitely just yet. There is the possibility of work in spin off movies and projects, and that makes us feel that teeny bit of hope. Only time will tell, and yes, we will at least get to hear the great music of John Williams in ‘Episode IX’, which is set to hit theaters on December 20th of 2019.
