Guitarist John Mayer is recovering well after an emergency surgery to remove his appendix. The singer was dramatically rushed to hospital on Tuesday and he underwent an emergency surgical procedure. A spokesperson for the 40 year old star confirmed that he’d been admitted to hospital for an emergency appendectomy. Publicist Larry Solter described the singer as in good spirits and said that he was recovering very well.
An appendectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the appendix because of acute appendicitis. Typically this happens if the patient’s appendix ruptures. It is still not clear what series of events or symptoms caused the singer songwriter to be admitted. We don’t know whether his appendix had ruptured. It’s not the first time Mayer has had his musical career interrupted by medical issues. In 2011 he had to delay his record Born and Raised when he had to undergo surgery on his vocal chords to remove a granuloma, described by the singer as a temporary setback.
The latest medical emergency did little to dampen Mayer’s renowned sense of humor or his irresistible good looks as the star took to social media and posted a selfie on Instagram wearing only his hospital gown. Mayer looks directly into the mirror. The cheeky caption of the post is “still got it” and he’s not wrong. Mayer also apologized on Twitter to fans for the concert postponements due to this unforeseen health set back and thanked them for all their love and well wishes.
Mayer had been touring with the Dead and Company. The band had to postpone the planned concert in New Orleans on December 5th because Mayer was ill. The band confirmed this on Twitter that unfortunately the gig would be rescheduled and fans’ tickets would be valid for the new date. Two further tour dates in Florida and Orlando also had to be deferred.
Mayer was born in Connecticut in 1977 and is an established solo artist well known for his sentimental guitar-hero rock music. He started Dead and Company in 2015. Band members include former members of the Grateful Dead including Michey Hart, Bill Kruetzmann, Bob Weir and Jeff Chimenti. The band has been touring to the delight of fans and critical acclaim.
Mayer is a multi Grammy awarding winning musician well known for hits including Free Fallin’ and Gravity. He was awarded a Grammy in 2003 as best new artist and for the hit Your Body is a Wonderland. In 2007 he bagged a Grammy for Continuum.
Hunky Mayer has also made headlines with his romantic entanglements. He’s been linked in the past with A Listers Jennifer Anniston, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Love Hewitt. He also dated Jessica Simpson and supermodel Heidi Klum. Katy Perry recently called him the best lover she’d had which fuelled speculation that the two might rekindle their romance. Mayer and Katy Perry dated and sang a duet together. He’s courted controversy with some ill advised interviews but he’s largely put this behind him.
We’re delighted Mayer is on the mend and look forward to seeing him back on tour with the Dead and Company and also getting down to finishing the long-awaited solo album.
