I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I look at Joel Embiid as a Greg Oden 2.0. A big man with incredible talent who only comes along once every 10 or so years but one who is constantly plagued by injury. What makes Embiid the more modern day version of Oden is that he has a great outside shot and a personality to boot. Oden was a beast and had so much potential but off the court he was always a little awkward. Embiid is not at all. In fact he seems like one of the funniest and fun to be around guys in the league. And considering how often this guy’s season ends, you have to appreciate him.
This season came to an end rather quickly for Embiid as yet another injury stopped him indefinitely. While Embiid, like Sixers fans, is disappointed in his season coming to an abrupt end, he still manages to have fun with the situation. He posted to Instagram immediately after his injury and tagged the location of the post as “meniscus,” and his latest commercial with Jolly Ranchers in their “Keep on Sucking” campaign pokes fun at his injury history causing him to still be a rookie, three years after being drafted.
As long as this guy keeps a smile on his face and keeps working hard, I have a feeling he’ll be one of the greats, on and off the court.
