Jay Hernandez Will Star in ‘Magnum P.I.’ Reboot Pilot for CBS

There is great news if you were a fan of ‘Magnum, P.I.’ in the 1980s or if you enjoy crime dramas as the popular series is set for a return to the television. In the reboot, Jay Hernandez has been cast in the title role. Thomas Magnum is an ex-Navy SEAL who is highly decorated. He decides to put his military experience and training to good use after he leaves the Navy and returns from Afghanistan by opening his own private detective agency. Hernandez is set to play this character when CBS launches its pilot of the crime drama TV series.

He takes over this role from Tom Selleck, who played Thomas Magnum in the original. The series about this private eye was aired on television from 1980 through to 1988. It was shown on CBS, just like the reboot, and was consistently ranked as one of the top 20 television programs in the United States throughout its run. ‘Magnum, P.I.’ was created by Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson who both continued to work as writers for the show.

Tom Selleck is now starring in ‘Blue Bloods’, the CBS crime drama. In the past, he has had roles in ‘Quigley Down Under’, ‘Three Men and a Baby’, ‘Lassiter’, and ‘Mr. Baseball’. He also played A.J. Cooper in the television series ‘Las Vegas’ and Richard Burke in ‘Friends’. Hernandez has been involved in a long list of successful projects. Most recently, he starred in ‘Suicide Squad’ playing the role of El Diablo, the pyrokinetic antihero. He was also in Ayers’ supernatural action thriller ‘Bright’, which was aired on Netflix. Other films in which Hernandez has starred include ‘Hostel’, ‘Bad Moms’, and ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’.

Peter Lenkov is a writer and producer who will be serving as an executive producer for the new ‘Magnum, P.I.’. He is the man responsible for bringing back several other iconic television classics, including ‘MacGuyver’ and ‘Hawaii Five-0′. Although he will not be starring in the reboot, Tom Selleck has had his own opinions on making a reboot of the show. Rumours first began circulating about a remake in 2015 and Selleck weighed in with his views straight away. The veteran actor said that his only concern was that fans who had seen the original may not accept a new actor taking on the role.

Now that news of the remake is official, it has raised a lot of questions amongst fans of the original series. For example, first time around, this series was set in Hawaii, Fans are now wondering if Hawaii will also be the setting for the remake. They may also be contemplating what car the new Magnum will drive and whether Hernandez will grow himself a mustache to look like his predecessor. Fans will just have to wait and see how close the remake is to the original.

‘Magnum, P.I.’ is not the only television series that is seeing a revival right now as there are several old favorites making a comeback. These include ‘Cagney & Lacey’, ‘Murphy Brown’, and ‘Roseanne’.
