James Corden isn’t really known for delivering passionate speeches without turning it into a joke, but this speech about gun control in the US makes a lot of sense. People can condemn him as much as they want for not knowing the lay of the land in American, but he knows enough that mass shootings in schools is not a natural phenomenon. Throughout the world gun control has worked in just about every other country, but not America. Within the USA there have simply been too many mass shootings in the last few years to see that nothing has gotten better.
There’s something missing in the USA, some vital component that is not being listened to or utilized by those who can make the laws and pass stricter gun control. People are speaking out, people are making their voices heard, and children now that have grown up with these mass shootings and the preparedness drills that are meant to ready them for these situations are tired of being ignored. If anyone of us can remember the days when the worst things we had to prepare for were fires, earthquakes, and even tsunamis if one happened to live on the coast, then we were truly blessed. Mass shootings were still known to happen in those days, but they were nowhere near as prevalent as they’ve been now. The mere fact that there are by necessity drills within so many schools on what to do when you hear gunshots is something that must be taken note of and must be a rallying cry to tell our government, who makes the gun laws, to finally stand up and do something that has yet to be done.
People want to buy guns? Fine, let’s enforce the gun laws and make them earn them, rather than purchase them as easy as it would be to buy them off a rack in WalMart. Japan seems to have the right idea when it comes to being able to be accurate with them, be subjected to a mental health evaluation, and so on. Keep in mind that those who have decided to go off the rails and start firing into public places like schools and concerts and the like have not been mentally stable. At this point arguing about who should have been keeping tabs on them is no longer the issue. It’s more about being able to recognize why America, as a nation, is considered to be one of the most violent places in the world to date. Other countries that have stricter gun laws have had far fewer shootings throughout the years than the US has had in the past few.
The walkout that’s set for this coming month could very well be an epic chin wag with the POTUS and those in power to change the policy on the gun laws if they have their say. By now however the politicians that have stated that it’s ‘not the time to talk about it’ should know that such a time has passed, and now there’s nothing else that needs to be talked about more than what needs to be done and who needs to be doing it.
