Inspiring Women Who Made History Are Being Made Into Barbie Dolls

Over the years, Mattel has transformed their flagship Barbie doll in line with current trends and in ways that represent women well. They have now announced that they are introducing a new range of Barbie dolls called ‘Inspiring Women’. These dolls are based on inspiring women from history who have made a significant contribution to their chosen field.

Lisa McKnight, the senior vice president and general manager of Barbie, spoke on behalf of Mattel about this new range. She explained that as a brand, Barbie reflects the limitless potential of females. They have decided to develop this new range in honor of some amazing role models and they are doing this now so it is timed in conjunction with International Women’s Day. She went on to explain further that their brand understands that young girls cannot be what they cannot see.

So far, there are 15 Barbie dolls included in this range and each will come complete with an information pack that gives a brief history of the influential woman in question. The women are from a variety of fields. For example, the range includes American aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, and Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

The other thirteen dolls include renowned French chef Helene Darroze, American filmmaker Polly Jenkins, Spanish designer and entrepreneur Vicky Martin Berrocal, Australian conservationist Bindi Irwin, Chinese actress and philanthropist Xiaolong Guan, German entrepreneur and designer Leyla Piedayesh, Polish journalist Martyna Wojciechowski, and Chinese prima ballerina Yuan Yuan Tan.

From the world of sports, the Barbie role models include British boxing champion Nicola Adams OBE, American snowboarding champion Chloe Kim, Italian soccer player Sara Gama, and Chinese volleyball champion Hui Ruoqi.

This selection of female role models are all outstanding talents in their fields and set a perfect example for young women. They are all inspirational because they have worked hard to achieve the highest level of success possible in either their sport or an area of business. Each of the women has ad massive personal achievements that have paved the wave for other women to achieve a similar level of success.

Mattel has said that they plan to introduce more role models to this range in the future and they certainly have many women they can choose between that are the perfect role models for girls. There are women who have made significant contributions in almost every field, from the arts to medicine and from literature to scientific research.

Mattel has not yet announced which female historical figures they are planning to include when they extend this range. So, for now, fans of Barbie will have to make do with the dolls already included in the new ‘Inspiring Women’ range. It has also not yet been made clear when this range is being launched. However, Mattel has said that the new dolls will be available in stores across the United States. When they are finally released, it is likely that Barbie fans from all over the world will be keen to add the dolls to their personal collections.
