The Travel Channel has many paranormal investigation shows, but The Dead Files stands out for its unique approach. Since its premier in 2011, The Dead Files has intrigued fans with its investigation and presentation of paranormal evidence at haunted locations. No in its 11th Season, The Dead Files continues to remain true to its style which feels honest and not staged. Fans of the show hope to see more “Special Investigation” episodes. Here’s how The Dead Files has evolved since Season 1:
Amy Allan
Amy Allan is one of the investigators on The Dead Files. Amy uses her skills as a physical medium to investigate the paranormal. A physical medium experiences paranormal entities and is able to channel entities. She has had this ability since she was a child but did not reveal it until she was in her twenties after studying Psychology at the University of Arizona. She was mentored by Dr. William Roll, a renowned Para-psychologist. In episodes of The Dead Files Amy is able to pick up paranormal entities often feeling their trauma. Prior to joining The Dead Files, Amy worked on other paranormal investigation shows on the Discovery Channel and The Travel Channel including 2002’s A Haunting In Georgia.
Steve DiShiavi
Steve DiShiavi is a former US Marine and a retired New York City homicide detective. After working as a homicide detective in Brooklyn for 21 years, DiShiavi worked as a Fraud Investigator for Merrill Lynch and as a Private Investigator. He was drawn to The Dead Files because of his role as an investigator. Steve uses his police skills to thoroughly investigate suspected hauntings. He investigates witnesses and explores the history of the site. He’s skeptical of the paranormal but is often amazed to see what his investigation finds compared to Amy Allan’s investigation.
The Premise
The Dead Files’ approach to paranormal investigation is unique. They use a scientific approach which qualifies the show as more realistic than other paranormal investigation shows like Ghost Adventures. The Dead Files combines a paranormal and scientific approach to its investigations.
In each episode of The Dead Files, Amy Allan goes into the haunted site with no knowledge of the facts of the hauntings or the clients. Matthew Anderson (Amy’s former husband) clears the site of any items, such as family photographs, that could influence Amy about the location. Amy does a walk through and picks up whatever entities are present at the scene. After her walk through, Amy sits down with a sketch artist and tries to depict the energy she felt.
In the meantime, Steve DiSchiavi conducts a thorough investigation of the haunted site. He uses his police experience and training to interview witnesses and investigate the properties history. DiSchiavi collects the facts about the site while Amy Allan gathers experiences. After Amy Allan and Steve DiSchiavi’s separate investigations of the haunted site, the pair meet up for the first time and sit down with the clients. Amy and Steve share what they have discovered about the site. A lot of times the two separate investigations make sense when compared to each other. If what they’ve found could be dangerous, Amy makes suggestions of what the clients can do.
The first few seasons
The Dead Files started off investigating smaller paranormal investigations. In Seasons 1 and 2, the team investigated homes, restaurants, bars, hotels and museums across the United States of America. Investigations took place in New Jersey, New York, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Montana and Michigan. By Season 3, the show had gained a large fan following. The Dead Files Teams investigated famous hauntings including the Villisca, Iowa Axe Murder house, St. Albans Sanatorium in Radford, Virginia, the Fairmont Hotel and Casino in Deadwood, South Dakota, and Alcatraz Island in San Francisco, California. The format of each show remained the same. Amy Allan and Steve DiSchiavi investigate the site separately without contact with each other before sharing and comparing their findings.
What to expect Season 11
Not much has changed since the premier of The Dead Files in 2011. The show continues to carry on two separate investigations of an alleged haunting, one paranormal and one scientific. At the end of the show, the two investigations findings are presented and compared. The show remains a fan favorite mostly because of its unique approach. Unlike shows like Ghost Adventurers, The Dead Files doesn’t play up the drama more than already exists. Fans of the show hope to see more Special Investigation episodes, but are happy The Dead Files continues its straightforward approach to paranormal investigations.
