Hotel Transylvania and its sequel were such massive successes that not only is a third movie on its way, the Disney Channel took up the reigns for its own series. Hotel Transylvania: The Series premieres this Sunday, June 25, and will chronicle Mavis’s teen years. When we first met Mavis and Dracula, their father-daughter dynamic was changing as Mavis fell in love. In the process she taught her father a newfound acceptance of humans so everyone could live in peace and fun. Now we will see how Mavis got to the point we saw her at the beginning of the first film, and this time we’ll get to meet some new friends as well.
The premise of the series finds Mavis given the responsibility of being in charge of the hotel while Dracula is away at the Vampire Council. Mavis (now being played by Caillou actress Bryn McAuley) takes over as manager under the watchful eye of her frightful Aunt Lydia (voice by Dan Chameroy). Let’s remember that while Mavis may be at least a hundred years old, she is still a teenager in vampire years. this means she’s got the run of the hotel, but so do her motley group of friends.
These are no ordinary friends, as they will actually be familiar to fans of the film franchise. We can safely assume that Mavis’s friends are none other than the children of Dracula’s monster friends from the films: Pedro, son of Murray the Mummy, Hank, the son of Frankenstein, and Wendy, the daughter of Blobby. What we can tell from watching the first episode (which can be viewed early on the Disney Channel app and the Disney Channel YouTube page) is that Mavis got her love of humans early. We expect her curiosity to grow as she matures from an innocent teen to a strong vampire woman through the course of this series. The show has the same creative spirit of the film, if just a touch more wacky antics to keep the kids entertained. It’s going to be a great series to watch on the couch with your kids and a bowl of microwave popcorn.
Tune in for the series premiere of Hotel Transylvania: The Series this Sunday, June 25 on Disney Channel.
