Who would have known that a person like Adolf Hitler would have had a secret passion for Disney characters? It’s like thinking that Joseph Stalin might have liked watching the old Looney Tunes cartoons. Apparently though Hitler did in fact like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves since it was based on an old German fairy tale. That makes sense I suppose considering that he loved everything German and was a staunch believer in the future and superiority of his country. What’s hard to believe however is that he would go so far as to recreate several drawings in the same likeness of several characters from Disney.
The discovery of a painting of a traditional Bavarian home that was created by A. Hitler was nothing special when it was bought at an auction, but when the buyer opened up the frame and found four hidden drawings he was a bit shocked to discover that each one was by the same artist, none other than Adolf Hitler, one of the most brutal and hated men in history. To see the evidence that a man such as Hitler had loved a children’s cartoon this much was bound to be somewhat odd as well as disconcerting. You can just imagine the Der Furher didn’t allow this talent to be seen by anyone that might have taken it the wrong way. After all the pictures are dated 1940, well into the second world war and only five years removed from its brutal end. Had Hitler allowed anyone to see this type of thing his rule might have begun to fray at the edges just a little more, or maybe not.
Who knows really? His commanders might have seen this as another of his eccentricities, but it would have been worse than the rumors that he was highly interested in all things occult, since those at least were considered to be something that might help the war effort if they’d been real. His interest in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and even Pinocchio might have begun to allow his followers to question his dedication to the cause and instead make them think that he was a false leader who simply wanted to draw cartoons. That’s a bit of a stretch I know but it doesn’t take much in order for others to at least attempt to defame those in a position of power and influence. If you read the news and look on Facebook on a daily basis you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
There’s no way to be a fan of anything Hitler did unless you happen to be someone that turns a blind eye to his atrocities or openly agrees with his ideals. As I’m neither I cannot say that this was a saving grace of any kind. It is an oddity to be certain that a person responsible for one of the worst mass murders the world has known was at all interested in something used to amuse and entertain children. Whatever inner child was used to create his drawings was a small and very closeted thing.
