You can use belladonna leaves mixed with loose-leaf tea to poison someone, and it’ll cause hallucinations. Or you could take some apple seeds (like 1/2 a cup, I think?) and blend them up, and add it to a drink. I learned both of these from shows like “Bones” and ‘The Mentalist”.

There was a sect of monks in Japan who attempted live mummification. Sokushinbutsu. They basically starved themselves and once they reached a specific point they’d just consume this posionous tea to try to dehydrate themselves. After X amount of time they were buried and other Monks sat vigil and when they were buried they had access to a string that rang a bell. They’d ring the bell like once a day and then when the bell stopped ringing they’d wait 3 days before exhuming them to see if it worked.

Not many worked. Several did but not compared got the numbers that tried it. The ones that worked were put in a temple and the ones that didn’t were put to rest. I want to say the last one that happened was in the 1960’s or thereabouts but I might be wrong on that. I know it was recent-ish.
