If you look at all of the Avengers, which one is sitting there stuck without a solo movie? We’ve got Iron Man. We have a Captain America franchise. There’s been 6000 different versions of The Hulk. Thor is about to clean up at the box office again. Spider-Man will be around for centuries. So what’s up with Black Widow? Scarlett Johannson has dominated the female hero role for what’s coming up on a decade now. Why hasn’t she gotten a solo film? Chris Evans was recently interviewed and he gave his opinion to Elle.
“That’s a good question. It would really just clean up, wouldn’t it? Scarlett [Johansson] is so good at everything she does. She’s played such a crucial part in the other films. She always makes her presence so felt – even when there are 50 different superheroes running around onscreen. I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens at some point in the future. I’m sure Scarlett would be open to it.”
So yeah. What’s the deal folks? Scarlett has more than proven to be a formidable leading lady throughout her career. What’s stopping a full on Black Widow franchise? With Atomic coming out, Wonder Woman set to rock theaters, it’s obvious films are moving in the direction of female heroes. It would be 100% logical to include Black Widow into this mix. And P.S. Ghost in the Shell?
Part of the reason it hasn’t happened already is likely because Johansson, being the current highest-grossing actress, would command a higher wage than Marvel may be willing to pay compared to what the movie might gross. Still though, it’s certainly worth the risk to make at least one film to see what happens.
