This week on Grey’s Anatomy, we find out once and for all what Derek has been doing with his time away from Seattle, and whether or not our favorite supercouple is broken beyond repair.
Picking up from last week’s ears that Derek may have cheated on Meredith, McDreamy comes home to set the record straight with his wife. He claims that all that happened was a simple phone mix-up with his research fellow, but Meredith still has doubts and doesn’t have the energy to deal with the reality if it is worse. So instead she decides to go to the hospital and tackle a procedure on one of Alex’s patients that is way too risky. When the kid dies (no more streak), Alex refuses to let Meredith beat herself up and instead, knowing what his friend needs, just hugs her.
So while Meredith is avoiding her husband, the audience gets to catch up with what Derek has been up to in Washington, D.C. Thus we are introduced to Renee, the girl who answered Derek’s phone. You can tell from the very beginning that this girl is trouble, being way too interested in her boss way too quickly. Sure enough she gets caught up the rush of making medical breakthroughs and makes a pass at Derek. This is enough to jolt some sense into Derek, who realizes he doesn’t want anything but what he has with Meredith. So these two are finally in the same place with Derek home for good.
Little sister Amelia is in a very good place as well in her new relationship with Owen. Before they can even get to an official date though, Owen is thrown for a loop when his mother shows up injured in the ER with a hunky boyfriend younger than Owen. I don’t blame Owen for freaking out given, well the obvious, and the fact that this relationship has been going on for almost a year without Owen ever finding out. Owen believes his mom’s new boyfriend is only using her and he takes his frustration over the situation out on Amelia. After his Mom suffers a complication which requires surgery, Owen realizes that this new guy truly does love his Mom and asks him to stick around. He makes it two for two by apologizing to Amelia for snapping at her, and it’s back to the trailer with these two.
Elsewhere main residents Jo and Stephanie have very interesting, albeit strange, days. Stephanie runs around trying to make up her hours in other departments since she spent so much time in neuro working Herman’s case. She even goes as far as trying to bribe Ben for his case, and Bailey is appalled that Stephanie would offer such a low offer for a good procedure. Jo tries to help Stephanie by taking a potential neuro case off of her hands, only to find that the patient in question has a leech stuck in her sinuses. There truly is nothing grosser than watching a leech being pulled from a woman’s nose, but Jo is so excited that the little critter logged her so many trauma hours, she decides to keep him as a pet.
Now that Derek is back for good, how will his return be met by the doctors of Grey Sloan?
