The Godather Turns 45:  Here are 7 Little Known Facts About the Film

The Godfather will always go down as one of the best films in the history of cinema.  If you can stomach your age you might realize that the Godfather recently celebrated its 45th anniversary.   It’s pretty hard to believe the movie was released in the 70s but its true.  To this day it’s widely considered the best gangster movie of all-time (I’m a Goodfellas guy) and people will certainly be talking about it 45 years from now and beyond.

In order to celebrate the 45th anniversary the folks at Cinefix put together a fun video containing seven little known facts that you (probably) didn’t know about The Godfather.  Let’s start with the first and then you can check out the rest in the video.

The film itself isn’t just dark in subject matter, it’s literally dark.  Particularly in interior scenes with Marlon Brando, the cinematographer Gordon Willis liked a darker room.  In fact his nickname was “the prince of darkness” because of his work on the Godfather.  But what most people don’t know is that the minimal lighting wasn’t only done to create a mood.   The film was also trying to conceal the heavy make up that Marlon Brando had to wear.   Brando sat through three hours of make up a day on the film.
