Are you kidding me with this trio of talent? The winner for next year’s Oscars has already been announced. Steven Spielberg is going to be directing Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep in a new drama about the freedom of the press called The Post. The fact-based feature will mark the acting powerhouses’ first on-screen team-up. According to Deadline
The drama will focus on the role of the Washington Post in bringing the Pentagon Papers – a report about the United States’ political and military involvement in Vietnam between 1945 and 1967 – to light in 1971. Hanks has been tapped to play Post editor Ben Bradlee, while Streep will play publisher Gray Graham. The duo went up against the federal government over the paper’s right to publish the report.
This is going to be the fifth time that Spielberg and Hanks team up. As for Streep, she was the voice of Blue Mecha in Spielberg’s “AI” back in 2001. As far as Spielberg directing Streep as a person, this will be the first time they pair up.
Do I even have to go into an analysis of what this movie is going to be? Two unbelievably strong performances by Hanks and Streep. The movie itself will be incredibly boring because lately Spielberg’s been taking on projects that are way too historical and annoying. Don’t get me wrong. This will no doubt be an Oscar winning film in multiple categories but good God is it gonna be a “yawn” flick.
Come on Spielberg. Do another Shark movie will ya? Am I wrong? I’d feel differently if I were in my 50s but I have a strong feeling I’m passing on this movie.
