Fringe 3.15 “Subject 13” Recap

Elizabeth Bishop questions her husband. How could he let Olivia go back to a place where he knows she will get hurt? How could he sacrifice one child for the other? Walter’s response is that the sacrifice would have to be considered if it was one for thousands or millions of others.

Fringe 3.15 “Subject 13” RecapAfter causing the fire, Olivia goes missing and then Peter does too. Having looked through her notebook and seen drawings of various scary things, he has gone to find her. Among the drawings, is a happy picture, a field of white tulips.

Cut to Walternate, drinking Jameson on the couch and watching the news talk about his son’s disappearance. He is devastated. His marriage is becoming a train wreck. Alt-Elizabeth begs him to stay home from Jacksonville this week to help repair their marriage and themselves. Instead, he heads to Bishop Dynamic and starts his drinking early.

Peter finds Olivia in the field of white tulips. He knew she’d be there because it was the only drawing she had that looked remotely happy. Worried that Dr. Walter will send her home because of the fire, she ran away. She can’t go back there.

Peter imparts the wisdom that his ‘mother’gave him; ‘Imagine how you want things to be and then you can try to change them.’He thinks she should trust Dr. Walter and tell them the truth about her stepfather.

So when they return and she’s waiting for her stepfather to pick her up, she runs to Dr. Walter’s office in a state of distress. With tears in her eyes, she hands over her drawings, explains how she crossed over and pleads, ‘Can you make him stop hitting me?’

Walter is then at the doorway and we realize, Olivia didn’t just share this information with him. It was Walternate. She reluctantly heads home with her stepfather but not until after Walter threatens him with a lot of trouble if he is to harm her again.

Peter has realized he’s not going home and apologizes to his ‘mother’for running off. Still persistent that she is not his real mother, Elizabeth Bishop appears to be able to convince him otherwise with her words.

‘Yes I am your mother. Of course I am. ‘

He nods his head and hugs her and her world starts to unravel a bit. This lie will start her downward spiral that leads to her eventual suicide. She takes out a bottle of alcohol and painfully swigs a sip.

At the same time, Walternate has been pondering his interaction with Olivia. He calls his Elizabeth with the news that he knows where Peter was taken and we cut to a drawing of Peter and Olivia holding hands.
