‘Friends from College’ is a new eight-part sitcom that airs on Netflix. The first episode of the series premiered on July 14, 2017. The show is created and written by Nicholas Stoller and his actress wife, Francesca DelBanco. Stoller is also the director of the show while both he and his wife have executive producer roles. The story is based on a group of friends from college who meet up again two decades later, although some of them have remained in contact during that time. Although the show is predominantly a comedy, there are elements of drama throughout to keep the audience engaged.
So why should this show be on your radar?
Easy Watching
If you prefer programs that are easy to watch rather than ones with complicated plots, twists, and turns, then ‘Friends from College’ is likely to appeal to you. It is a fun and entertaining show to watch that is easy to follow. However, there are plenty of storylines running through the series to keep you interested in watching more. It is the type of series where you can look forward to watching it each week or wait until the end and watch all the episodes back-to-back.
Relate to Your Own Experiences
This series will particularly appeal to people in their 30s and 40s who can relate to the characters in the show. Not only will this demographic have attended school at the same time as the cast of the series, they can probably connect with the life stage of the characters and their relationships and relate the issues in the show to their own life experiences. This is the type of connection people need in a sitcom like this to make them watch to the end of the series.
Diverse Characters
There are many characters in this show, so there is someone that everyone can relate to while also having a character they love and one they hate. Two of the main roles in the series are Ethan Turner, played by Keegan-Michael Kay, and Sam, played by Annie Parisse. These two characters appear in all eight episodes of the show and are also the first characters you meet in the opening scene. The show opens with the pair in bed together. Although they are both married to other people, they have continued a physical relationship with each other since college. Other people starring in ‘Friends from College’ include Jae Suh Park, Fred Savage, Nat Faxton, Cobie Smulders, Greg Germann and Billy Eichner.
A Great Soundtrack
One of the most noticeable aspects of this sitcom that makes it stands out from other sitcoms with similar themes is that it has a great soundtrack. The songs are chosen for nostalgic reasons as they were songs in the charts when the characters would have been in college. If this is your era, then it is an element of the show you will enjoy. There are tracks by Oasis and the memorable ‘Brimful of Asha’ by Cornershop.
These are just a few of the reasons why you should be watching this sitcom. If it sounds like a series that appeals to you, then ‘Friends from College’ is now available to stream on Netflix.
