We’re only a few episodes away from the end of our fourth “summer” with Franklin & Bash, and it’s been just as fun as the rest of the season and series. While last week’s guest-star ridden ride was a highlight of the season, this week’s follow up was an excellent complement to the spirit they’ve put forth all season long.
This week, Jared and Peter returned to the nursing home scene to defend their old friend Danny Dubois as he was being evicted from the senior community after his grandmother’s passing. In a tilt-a-whirl of legal stunts, they end up getting Danny adopted by another resident, “Falcon” (played by Barry Bostwick), and getting all their residents to stand up to the evil board president. Including Pindar’s internet ex-girlfriend, Nanette.
As for the B-plot, Karp and Anita work a case together, while Swatello tries to start a committee at Infeld’s insistence, but mostly just gets mad at everyone over Jared. I am the biggest fan of the dynamic between Franklin & Bash, but I love seeing the supporting players mix and match and itneract with each other. It shows the strength of this cast and just how fun this show really is. I would like to see Peter and Jared work alongside Swatello sometime soon, but you can’t have it all. Reed Diamond has always been excellent, but Toni Trucks stepped up and was a game changer in this episode.
Guest stars didn’t have as heavy of an impact as they have in the last few episodes, but there were still some notable players in the mix, such as Bostwick, and Dexter alum C.S. Lee, who defended the fictional airline against Anita and Karp. Of course, any Franklin & Bash fan would know that both Danny and Nanette were returning characters, which helps bridge the continuity gap that the first 3 seasons created. Guest stars were ultimately less prominent in this episode, but this week shone the brightest light on the people who work at the firm, and the overall group dynamic is compelling to say the least, but also hilarious. The re-structured cast has made this season one of the best yet for our favorite firm. The whole “who is the sidekick” running gag was surprisingly relevant because it showcased the whole cast instead of spotlighting a few of them.
You can’t have a good fun TV episode without some favorite quotes, and here are some of my favorites from this particular laugh out loud episode:
“Well you’re both dumb as tree bark so technically you’re both sidekicks”- Ellen Swatello
“Of course, my two favorite counselors: Sherman and Mr. Peabody”- The Judge
“I got your nose!”- Jared Franklin
“You know…working with Saruman?”- Jared, on working with Karp
“Maybe we should talk to Penn and Teller, because they know more about the law and they’re infinitely more entertaining”- Karp, on whether they should consult Franklin & Bash on their case
Overall this was a great, fun episode and it prepares us nicely for the final two. Did you have as much fun as I did? Let us know what you think!!
