Every actor stars in a few roles throughout their career that are deemed less than good, but sometimes even the best actors tend to make a few mistakes along the way and take on roles that really aren’t any good for them at all. Dustin Hoffman has been considered a great actor for a lot of years because he’s such a great personality and understands how to give the people what they want. But that being said he’s also the type that has a very strong opinion about things and if he’s going to do things his way then there’s not a lot that can dissuade him at that point. One thing is for certain, he’s still a legendary actor, but he’s made his fair share of mistakes when it comes to accepting roles.
Here are a few he could have possibly avoided.
5. Sphere-Dr. Norman Goodman
The book was incredible, but the movie was just so-so. Unlike the book it made a lot of unfulfilled promises that it never delivered on and unfortunately Hoffman had to kind of play along with this one throughout much of the film. What should have been a stellar performance by all involved fell kind of flat either because the source material wasn’t followed closely enough or the actors’ dialogue just wasn’t up to snuff.
4. Confidence-King

It’s not bad enough that King has ADHD, but he’s also the type of nutcase you just don’t mess with because for some reason people tend to follow him more or less BECAUSE he’s crazy. There’s no telling when he’ll flip out or on who but the tendency he has is to just go nuts whenever he seems to feel like it. For a guy that looks more like someone’s fun grandfather that’s just not the right role.
3. Little Fockers-Bernie Focker
Bernie Focker was great in Meet the Fockers. He was full of energy, constant, and a big part of the movie. Here he’s kind of a byproduct. He doesn’t even show up that much in the film due to a mid-life crisis that has him all the way over in Spain for a good chunk of the film. If he’s going to be in these films then he needs to be in them, not here and there and all over the place.
2. The Cobbler-Abraham Simkin
Dustin Hoffman is not the guy you get for cameo or limited roles unless it’s something that just happens to need his touch, and of course if he agrees. He might not mind it but if he’s being billed in the show at all it’d be nice to see his influence. Bringing him in near the end, or when his son is playing him by putting on his magical shoes, is kind of a cheap way of doing things.
1. Sleepers-Danny Snyder
Danny Snyder is just not a good character. He’s barely a decent supporting character and in all honesty, even if he was in the book, he should have been omitted. If nothing else Dustin Hoffman could have been left off the list for this character so that they could get someone that really looks the part of a washed-up lawyer that can barely read the notes given to him.
This list was painful since Dustin Hoffman is a great actor. But there were a few parts he could have let go.
