Wonder Woman was a great movie that brought the DC Extended Universe back on track. However, it has its fair share of problems, which range from plot holes to unanswered questions. They are not enough to detract from its overall excellence, but nonetheless, they exist. What are five things about Wonder Woman that made no sense at all?
Here are 5 examples:
How Has No One Ever Landed on Themyscira?
Since Diana and Steve managed to make it to London on a small sailboat, it seems probable that Themyscira is not situated in some remote corner of the Earth but rather in a location that sees a fair amount of traffic. Furthermore, since there does not seem to be a special requirement for people to be able to make it to Themyscira, that raises the question of how no outsider has ever preceded Steve to the place. The simplest and most straightforward answer is that it was a matter of luck, but to be honest, that would be a rather disappointing answer to say the least.
How Did Ares Kill the Other Olympians?
Traditionally, Ares is neither one of the strongest nor one of the smartest Olympians. For example, Athena bested him twice in the Iliad. The first time, she empowered her chosen champion Diomedes to stab him; the second time, she smashed him to the ground with a huge rock in person. As a result, it is difficult to imagine him being able to kill all of the Olympians unless it was through guile, except even that is a stretch because Ares represents physical courage rather than the thinking part of war. Granted, Wonder Woman isn’t supposed to be an accurate depiction of Greek mythology, but this is nonetheless strange considering the next point.
How Did Wonder Woman Best Ares?
Simply put, if Ares killed the other Olympians, how was Diana able to best him? After all, she was newcome to her powers, whereas Ares can claim centuries and centuries’ worth of experience at a minimum. The movie made it seem like it was the power of love, but once more, that is a rather disappointing answer, particularly since if Ares did kill the other Olympians, he would have had to kill Aphrodite as well.
The Whole Thing with the Dress
At one point, Diana sneaks in with a sword strapped to her back while wearing her armor beneath her dress. One cannot help but wonder how no one noticed the rather obvious weapon on her open back. For that matter, one cannot help but wonder how Ludendorff failed to notice her armor when the two danced together.
How Steve Was Able to Go Behind German Lines
There doesn’t seem to be a reason for the Germans to believe that Steve is a German except for the fact that he flew into the German occupation on a German plane. While some slip-ups are understandable, this pushes the suspension of disbelief to its limits. Some might say that it shouldn’t when Wonder Woman is a movie about a semi-divine daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus, but to be honest, making the small details realistic in such a fantastical movie is even more important for helping making the whole thing seem plausible.
