Five Things You Never Knew about Storm Chasers Joel Taylor

Joel Taylor, one of the regulars on the show Storm Chasers, just passed away recently at the age of 38. That’s kind of scary considering that 38 is way too young to just kick off, but the particulars of his passing are still being discovered as the overall statement of drug overdose is being tossed around the media at this point. Dozens of articles have already launched detailing his passing and all of them have offered their condolences in different ways. As I’ve never watched the show but can get a pretty good idea of what they did and what went on at times I can say that while he didn’t get to go out doing what he loved, he at least had the chance to be part of something great that he believed in.

That’s just too young to pass on like this, I can only hope that he’s at peace.

5. At one point he quit to go into real estate.

That seems like such a swing in the opposite direction that you wouldn’t expect it to have satisfied him for very long. The rush and the thrill of going out and chasing after storm systems is something that couldn’t be matched by selling homes to people that may or may not be seriously looking. Eventually he went back to storm chasing, but that had to be head-scratcher for a lot of people.

4. It’s suspected that he passed away from an overdose.

That’s the official story as of now that’s been relayed throughout the dozens of articles that have run on the subject. The party boat that he was on was supposedly well-stocked with recreational drugs though no one seems to know just how they got on board as of yet. Either someone’s afraid of losing their job, going to jail, or implicating someone else, or it was a dubious miracle that no one wants to cop to.

3. He was on Team Dominator in the show.

This had more to do with the vehicle they drove, the heavily-armored SRV Dominator. This thing is basically a Chevy Tahoe with a bulletproof blanket of metal covering it that could help stave off any flying debris that they encountered from tornadoes. It kind of reminds me of the kind of vehicles you would see in a Mad Max movie, big, bad, and ready to plow through anything in its way.

2. His team became a main part of the show by the second season.

In the first season their team had more of a cameo appearance. They were there and gone, more to just show up than to be a part of the program. By the second season though they were a part of the regular lineup and were ready to go.

1. He didn’t chase storms for the glory of it.

This is about the best reason to do anything that you happen to love. A lot of people that go storm chasing do happen to go out for the glory of being known and for the findings that they might bring back. Joel went out to just do what he loved.

Rest in peace man.
