“The Good Doctor” will be a part of ABC’s fall lineup and is scheduled to air Monday nights at 10:00pm. The medical drama focuses on a young pediatric surgeon in a Boston hospital. The surgeon, Dr. Shawn Murphy, has an autism spectrum condition. He has Savant Syndrome. Although he is unable to connect to others, Dr. Murphy has extraordinary medical skills. The dilemma of the show is whether Dr. Murphy can save the lives of people he has no connection with and how his colleagues will overcome their skepticism.

1. It’s based on a Korean series
“The Good Doctor” is based on a popular 2013 Korean television drama. It follows the lives of a young doctor with an autistic spectrum disorder and incredible medical gifts and his colleagues. The Korean drama followed Park Shi-on, played by Joo Won, an autistic savant sent to a specialized care center as a child. There, it was discovered that he had genius levels for memory and special skills. He becomes a pediatric surgeon and is given 6 months to prove his skills working as a resident.
2. Daniel Dae Kim isn’t leaving “Hawaii Five-0”
Fans of “Hawaii Five-0” don’t have to worry that Daniel Dae Kim will leave his popular role as Chin Ho Kelly. Kim is a co-creator and producer of “The Good Doctor” but plans to continue both roles. “House” creator, David Shore, created the American remake of “The Good Doctor” with Kim. Shore is known for his work on classic television dramas including “NYPD Blue”.
3. Freddie Highmore is an English actor
Alfred “Freddie” Highmore plays the main character, Dr. Shawn Murphy, in the reboot of “The Good Doctor”. The young English actor has had a successful film and television career. He was in 2004’s “Finding Neverland” and 2005’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” among other films. His role as Norman Bates in the A & E drama-thriller “Bates Motel” which delves into the background from the iconic “Psycho” role earned him a People’s Choice Award. Highmore also was the screenwriter for 2 episodes of “Bates Motel” and directed 1 episode.
4. Nicholas Gonzales has had a prolific career
Nicholas Gonzales is a Texas born actor who has had roles in several films and television series and will play the role of Dr. Neal Melendez in “The Good Doctor”. He may be best known for his role as Detective Marco Furey in “Pretty Little Liars”. Gonzalez has been in several television shows including “The OC”, “Modern Family”, “Bones”, “Ghost Whisperer”, and “Law and Order: SVU”. His films include 2011’s “S.W.A.T.” and 2014’s “The Purge: Anarchy”.
5. Dr. Claire Brown
Antonia Thomas will play the role of Dr. Murphy and Dr. Melendez’s colleague on “The Good Doctor”. Thomas is an English born actress whose father is a classical bass singer. Antonia started her career in theater and was featured in Coldplay’s video for “Charlie Brown”. Her lead female role as Dr. Claire Brown in “The Good Doctor will bring a different perspective to the medical drama.
