Five Things Movies Always Get Wrong About Rock Stars

Rock Stars are easy to idolize and glamorize in movies so it’s obvious that Hollywood is going to get a few things wrong. Or if not wrong then horribly inaccurate. While it’s easy to point out this and that in movies that isn’t correct or is simply false on purpose there are also legends about various rock stars that are far more interesting to divulge and can be a lot more entertaining to read. After all they do shed a little light on what people might think and actually believe when it comes to the genre. Some of the things you might hear about rockers are true, while others you should take with a huge grain of salt.

Let’s check a few of those out.

5. Who really killed Kurt Cobain?

A lot of fingers want to point at his wife Courtney Love, who vehemently denies such rumors to this day. But the documentaries and movies that have been made of this want to play it up so much that many folks believe beyond the shadow of a doubt that she’s guilty. Even her daughter has made the accusation at this point that she was responsible, though no one knows for sure.

4. Ozzy didn’t mean to bite the head off of a live bat.

This has been a part of Ozzy Osbourne’s life for so long that you can’t help but think of it as something that goes hand in hand with the aged singer. The whole thing occurred when he was on stage and someone, for some odd reason, threw a live, injured bat up at him. Thinking it was a toy Ozzy leaned down, picked it up, and then bit clean through its neck. He didn’t realize that it was real until shortly after. Now movies tend to make a joke of this, though thankfully Ozzy is a good sport.

3. Jim Morrison and Elvis Presley are very much deceased.

Those conspiracy theorists and diehard fans that want to believe otherwise are experts at deluding themselves and attempting to do this to others. Movies tend to do this as well thanks to their need to give the audience something fantastical. Their belief and their faith in what they want so badly to be true is kind of touching but it’s not going to change the fact that their idols are gone. What’s not gone are the songs and the feelings that they invoke, which is something to be thankful about.

2. Rockstars don’t promote violence at their shows.

In movies you might see them ignore something particularly violent going on in the front rows well within their sight, but in reality this just doesn’t happen. Rockers know that to have a good concert they need to keep playing and entertain the masses, but they’re also human beings who won’t stand for people being abused or brutalized at their shows.

1. They’re not all about substance abuse.

The popular belief is that a lot of rock stars tend to be alcoholics, pill poppers, meth users, heroin addicts, and so on and so on. But the truth is that not all of them are this way. Some bands have managed to produce quality hits and establish a career without touching drugs. Examples would be Rage Against The Machine, the Henry Rollins Band, KISS, and Bruce Springsteen.

Rock and roll is easy to glamorize and hide behind myths and conspiracies, but the truth of it is often far simpler.
