Five Things We Learned from the Deadliest Catch Finale

Five Things We Learned from the Deadliest Catch Finale

When the show aired its very first episode back in 2005, the world was introduced to a whole new way of living and making money. Since then, Deadliest Catch has been catching more than crabs in every season. The show has captured the hearts and minds of millions of viewers each year, as we grew attached to the different crews that risk their lives so we can all enjoy our crab legs. Now 12 seasons in, the show has lost beloved members and has given us plenty more in return. The season 11 two-hour finale was as exciting as ever, as we learned some things that we’ve listed for you here.

1. Captain Sig is OK.

The fan favorite suffered and survived a massive heart attack during the finale of the show. The race to get him medical help was scary to say the least, but we know that he is OK. He himself claims that he is way too stubborn to die. We were worried for a while that he might not be able to do season 13, but now we know that he’s healthy enough to go. Way to go, Captain!

2. The FV Time Bandit is losing a co-captain because he’s completely retiring from crab fishing.

We’re saying goodbye to Johnathan Hillstrand. For a special tribute, Discovery is giving us a special episode about Hillstrand that will pretty much give us a deeper cover of his life story. We also learned that Hillstrand might be putting all his concentration into his car-racing hobby. Should we be expecting a show about this soon?

3. Edgar Hansen can hold his own end.

After Sig left the Northwestern to be with his family after the devastating events surrounding the Destination ship, Edgar was left to guide his men both to safety and profit. Edgar claimed he was nervous, but he did everyone right by following his true fisherman’s instinct. He went for shallower waters and ended up with a haul that gave the crew a take home of about $45,000 for the season.

4. Jake Anderson made it out alright.

After a season full of tension being the new captain of the ship Saga, he had to call the season’s end early when Hannes Huswick, his deck boss, broke his hand on a freezer door. But with a little bit of begging, Huswick continued to work along with the crew to get the Saga’s highest pot of the season, nabbing 602 crabs.

5. We learned that there’s still no sighting of the Cornelia Marie.

We’ve surely missed Captain Josh and his crew, but without even a single hint for their return, we decided to look elsewhere. It seems as if there’s some rumor brewing from other sources that the Cornelia Marie might finally be returning after this season. The hints of their return might be coming directly from the Captain himself. Who knows? We can’t wait until the previews come for season 13 to find out for sure, but for now, we can enjoy the bounty the crews have given us and hope for yet another good year.
