Five Things You Didn’t Know about Paw Patrol

What parent of a preschool-aged child doesn’t know this animated cartoon? Paw Patrol is as big as they come when it comes to kids entertainment. The series focuses on a boy named Ryder who leads a pack of rescue dogs known as The PAW Patrol. Each dog has a distinct set of skills and doghouses that transform into customized vehicles when needed. Together they take on missions to protect Adventure Bay.

To keep parents in the know, I put together five things you probably don’t know about this series. Let’s start here…

Unlike most children’s cartoons, PAW Patrol is voiced mostly by child voice actors

That’s incredible when you think about it. Indeed, other popular children shows like SpongeBob are voiced by veteran adult tv and movie actors. The child voice cast of PAW Patrol includes Drew Davis, Jaiden Cannetelli, and Devan Cohen, amongst a slew of other kids voicing prominent characters on the show.

BuzzFeed ranked it as one of the worst kids shows on TV

We all have our critics and PAW Patrol is no different. The show has been criticized by critics and publications including BuzzFeed for having a lack of female characters on the show.

In an article titled “Here’s Why ‘Paw Patrol’ Is A Terrible Kidd’s Show” written by BuzzFeed founding editor Craig Silverman, he made the argument that all the pups have cool gadgets in their pup packs all except Skye, the original female pup.

The writer went on to also ask why there is only one female pup on PAW Patrol. You can check out the full article here: https://www.buzzfeed.com/craigsilverman/paw-patrol-must-be-put-down

The Creator of PAW Patrol also created another successful children’s cartoon

Paw Patrol was created by British television writer and producer Keith Chapman, and he’s no rookie when it comes to keeping your children entertained. Early in his career, he worked for Jim Henson International designing several characters for “The Muppets.” He eventually decided to pursue his own career and got his first major success when he created “Bob the Builder” in 1998. The show continues to produce new episodes and delight children around the world all these years later. To say Bob the Builder was a success would be an understatement.

PAW Patrol significantly boosted Nickelodeon’s ratings

Privately held financial software, data, and media company Bloomberg L.P. described PAW Patrol as part of a “creative resurgence” that has drastically increased Nick Jr’s viewership in 2016. And at a 2016 presentation for future advertisers President of Nickelodeon Cyma Zarghami, spotlighted PAW Patrol as one of two preschool shows that have significantly helped boost the network’s ratings. In short, PAW Patrol is an absolute juggernaut for Nickelodeon.

The shows Merchandise is a money making machine

In 2015 alone toys and video games related to PAW Patrol brought in $245 million. Wow… With an ever expanding product line and popularity, I’m sure that number has risen by now.

Conclusion

Hands down, PAW Patrol, is here to stay. The show seems to have that unique blend of TV magic that creates a brand that spans generations. Don’t be shocked if you look up one day and your grandkids are asking you to buy them a “Paw Mobile” for Christmas.
