Laurieann Gibson is a Canadian woman who has been involved with the entertainment industries in a wide range of ways. Primarily, most people will be familiar with her because of her work as a choreographer. However, she has also been an actress, a dancer, a director, and a TV personality at other times. Here are five things that you may or may not have known about Laurieann Gibson:
She Was Born in Toronto, Canada
Gibson was born in Toronto, which is the capital of the Canadian province of Ontario. Primarily, Toronto is famous for being one of the economic centers of Canada, which in turn, has contributed to its status as one of its cultural centers as well. With that said, it is amusing to note that the rest of Canada has what can be called a rather mixed opinion of Toronto because there is a perception that Torontonians are both self-absorbed and self-indulgent.
She Was a Fly Girl On In Living Color
In Living Color was a sketch comedy series that started up in 1990 and continued running until 1994. The name of the series was a reference to a NBC line that saw use in a time when black and white TV was still the standard. Furthermore, it was a reference to the fact that most of its cast members were black. Gibson was involved with In Living Color as one of its Fly Girls, which was the dance troupe of the series. Something that Gibson shared with Jennifer Lopez as well as Carrie Ann Inaba.
Rose to Prominence on Making the Band
One of the reasons for Gibson’s rise to prominence was her involvement with Making the Band. For those who are unfamiliar with that name, Making the Band was a reality series centered around producing a musical act, which resulted in a number of musical acts such as O-Town. Gibson was one of the people who helped Diddy run the reality series by finding potential prospects for the musical acts being created.
Rose to Prominence on P.Diddy’s Starmaker
Another series that contributed to Gibson’s rise to prominence was her involvement with one of Diddy’s other reality series P. Diddy’s Starmaker. Once again, Gibson worked with Diddy, though this time, she was one of the judges presiding over the singing competition. With that said, while Making the Band managed to be successful for some time, P. Diddy’s Starmaker lasted no more than a single reason.
Has Worked with a Number of Famous Names
Over the course of her career, Gibson has worked with a wide range of famous names. For example, she has worked with both Beyonce and Michael Jackson at various points in her career. In more recent times, she has worked with both Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj as well. As a result, while her contributions might not be as obvious as those of others, there can be no doubt about the fact that Gibson has exerted a great deal of influence on modern pop culture.
