D’arcy Carden has had a busy career as of late between films and TV. She started out acting in a local community theater and through a lot of hard work and a little luck she managed to get noticed and even invited to the Upright Citizens Brigade. Her acting is sound and her comedy is good enough to be deemed worthy of being considered as one of the better actors out there, but she still needs that one little push in the right direction it seems.
I think at this point though she’s done very well and should be proud of her success.
5. She co-founded a music magazine.
The name of the magazine was BAM and it ran from 1976 to 1999. To this date it is a website and not a physical magazine but it’s been back up since 2011. That’s a pretty decent accomplishment to be able to claim and something that could be added to the resume just to round it out a bit. Whether she has anything to do with it at this point is kind of unknown.
4. The apostrophe in her name is due to her love of Smashing Pumpkins.
This was to emulate D’arcy Wretzky, the original bass player for the Smashing Pumpkins. I’ve heard of people attempting to emulate their favorite bands and switching your name just enough to make it happen isn’t the craziest thing that’s ever happened. I wonder though if she prefers people to speak her name with a pause between the D and the rest of her name. That would be a little odd.
3. She does improvisational sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade.
Improv is something that a lot of people either don’t like to do or find somewhat challenging since it’s coming up with something right on the spot without any real time to plan it out. Some people are really good at improv while others tend to have a harder time since their minds don’t process information fast enough to create a joke or a funny situation that could work in a cohesive way. Improv is something that’s taught at the most basic levels but is still kind of difficult since you have to come up with something right then and there and not dawdle for fear of losing your audience.
2. She’s been active as a performer since 2004.
Between theater, films, and TV she’s done quite a bit in the last decade and more. She’s established herself as a genuine actor and made it clear that she’s worth taking a chance on. Her roles might not always be the biggest or most memorable but when she does have a role in something she brings her own brand of entertainment to the fore and makes sure that people will remember her.
1. She stars in The Good Place.
She stars as Janet in this amusing and even touching show about the afterlife and how the lead character made it there by mistake. Despite this little clerical error the lead, played by Kristin Bell, does what she can to make sure that she earns her place and is allowed to stay.
D’arcy Carden is someone interesting to watch, and I think she’ll just keep getting better.
