Most people will be familiar with Auli’i Cravalho because of her role as the titular character in Disney’s Moana, which is a role that she is expected to reprise in more than one movie. With that said, it is interesting to note that she will be making her debut on the TV screen as well in an upcoming musical drama called Rise on NBC.
Here are five things that you may or may not have known about Auli’i Cravalho:
Mixed Descent
Given her name, it should come as no surprise to learn that Cravalho can claim descent from more than one group. After all, Auli’i is a name with Hawaiian origins. In contrast, Cravalho is a Portuguese surname which was popular with Sephardic Jews as well as Portuguese people who could claim descent from the Normans. Besides her native Hawaiian and Portuguese heritage, Cravalho can also claim Chinese, Irish, and Puerto Rican heritage as well.
Living in Mililani When She Had Her Breakthrough
When she had her breakthrough, Cravalho was living in Mililani, which was started up for the purpose of relieving the high demand for housing in Oahu. Currently, the city can be divided up into three parts. One part is the older Mililani Town, which can be found to the west of Interstate H-2, while another part is the newer Mililani Mauka, which can be found on the opposite side of the same road. Meanwhile, there is also Launani Valley, which is a master planned community that is more secluded in nature.
Last Person to Audition for Moana
Initially, Cravalho had decided not to audition for the role of Moana because she had seen a great number of great auditions on YouTube, meaning that she didn’t see a point to auditioning. However, she was convinced otherwise by a talent agent, who noticed her when she sang at a competition. As it turned out, Cravalho was the last person to audition for the role of Moana, which made for a rather neat anecdote.
Will Be Showing Up in Wreck-It Ralph 2
Currently, Cravalho is expected to make an appearance in Ralph Breaks the Internet, which is the name of Wreck-It Ralph 2. In it, Ralph will be meeting up with all of the Disney princesses, most of whom are played by their original voice actresses, as well as a couple of new additions in the form of Princess Leia from Star Wars as well as Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy. For those who are curious, Ralph Breaks the Internet is expected to come out towards the end of November in 2018, which should come as welcome news for those who remember the first movie with fondness.
Has Been Cast in Rise
Earlier, it was confirmed that Cravalho had been cast in the pilot for Rise, which is an upcoming musical drama based on a book called Drama High. It has been confirmed that the pilot as well as the rest of the ten episodes will be broadcast on NBC starting in March of 2018. In it, Cravalho will be playing one of the main characters named Lillette Suarez.
