Paddington Bear has been one of the most beloved characters in children’s literature since his first appearance in 1958. Since that time, his more than 70 books have been translated into 30 languages, which have sold more than 30 million copies in countries situated all around the world. As a result, it should come as no surprise to learn that there was a successful movie called Paddington in 2014, which will now be followed by Paddington 2 in 2017.
Here are five things to expect from Paddington 2:
To Be Released on November 10
Production on Paddington 2 started up sometime in October of 2016. Now, it is expected that Paddington 2 will be released on November 10 of 2017 in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, U.S. fans of the Paddington franchise will have to a little longer, seeing as how Paddington 2 won’t be released in the United States until January 12 of 2018.
New Cast Members
When production started, it was confirmed that the cost members of the cast for the first movie would be returning to reprise their roles in Paddington 2. However, it is interesting to note that there will be two notable additions to the cast. The first is Hugh Grant, who will be playing a fading but still narcissistic actor named Phoenix Buchanan. Meanwhile the second is Brendan Gleeson, who will be playing a safe-cracker named Knuckles McGinty.
Filmed in London
Since the movie is set in London, it should come as no surprise to learn that the production took place in London as well. For example, it has been reported that the cast and crew spent three days filming in Little Venice, which is one of the wealthier parts of London that is known for its canals, its motor boats, and its Regency-style mansions and townhouses. Furthermore, it has also been reported that part of the movie was filmed in HMP Shepton Mallet, which was the oldest operating prison in the whole of the United Kingdom by the time it was closed in 2013.
Centered Around Finding a Thief
Paddington was about Paddington becoming part of the Brown family. In contrast, Paddington 2 sees Paddington as not just a member of the Brown family but also a much-beloved member of the community surrounding them. As a result, the movie’s plot will be centered around Paddington’s efforts to find a suitable present for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday as well as the Brown family’s efforts to find the thief when his choice, a one-of-a-kind pop-up book found in an antique store, is stolen.
Not the End
Fans of the Paddington franchise should be glad to know that Paddington 2 won’t be the final installment. After all, the voice of Paddington, Ben Whishaw confirmed in June of 2016 that StudioCanal already has plans for a third Paddington movie. In hindsight, this was perhaps unsurprising, considering the sheer number of fans out there as well as the sheer amount of source material that can be used for inspiration. For that matter, it is worth noting that the themes of the Paddington franchise have become more relevant than ever in modern times, which in turn, means that they are needed more than ever.
