Super villains… The ones that bring terror to civilians and wreak havoc on our favorite superheroes. In a twisted way we all love them, what would our favorite superhero movies and comic books be without them? On most occasions, Super villains are presented as supporting characters for the story. The superhero is always the star. Wouldn’t it be pretty cool if some of our favorite villains got a chance to tell their stories?
Here are my top 5 super villains that deserve origins movies.
1. The Joker
The Joker is arguably the most well known super villain of all-time. In my opinion, an origins movie is decades overdue for Batman’s longest standing nemesis (The Joker first appeared in the first issue of the Batman comic book.) No matter if he’s played by Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, or the man that played Joker in the original Batman television series Cesar Romero Jr, he still comes off as menacing. Somebody really needs to get this film done NOW.
2. Lex Luthor
This super villain first made his debut in “Action Comics” #23 in April 1940; he has endured as the archenemy of Superman ever since. There are a lot of angles you could approach a Lex Luthor origins film from. You have the creation and many illegal dealings of LexCorp, his obsession with defeating Superman, or how he came to be the sociopath villain he is. No doubt you could fill 2 or 3 hours of film with Lex Luthor’s story alone.
3. Magneto
What would X-Men be without Magneto? His electromagnetic powers are virtually limitless. Unfortunately, for the X-Men so is how far he will go to conquer humanity and make mutants the dominant species. Over the years writers have fleshed out his origins. Revealing that he’s a Holocaust survivor whose extreme methods and ideology stem from his determination to protect mutant kind from a similar fate as the Jews in Nazi Germany. I want them to dig deeper into this. Of all the super villains on this list, Magneto can have the most depth and emotional pull to his story.
4. Darth Vader
He might not be the first person that comes to mind when you think of the word super villain. But the original dark lord of Star Wars is undoubtedly a super villain and one of the darkest on this list by the way. Ruling by both fear and aggression, you have to respect his gangsta (as the youngsters say.) I think every Star Wars fan would love to see a origins movie about Darth Vader. I can imagine the long lines of fans at movie theaters around the country now.
5. The Penguin
Hands down, The Penguin was always one of my favorite Batman villains. Repeatedly named one of the best Batman villain’s and one of the greatest villains in comics, many people seem to agree. First introduced in December 1941, The Penguin is undoubtedly one of Batman’s most enduring nemeses. For that reason alone he deserves an origins film.
Conclusion
The super villains on this list all have intriguing back stories that many fans would like to deliver deeper into. Hopefully, one day the movie studios will bring these stories to the big screen.
