Narcos is one of the most popular shows on Netflix and one thing that sets it apart from many shows is the fact that it is based on a true story. The first two seasons of the series are mainly based on activities of the Medellin drug cartel and first two seasons focus on the pursuit and eventual killing of the cartel’s head honcho, Pablo Escobar.
Narcos season two ended on a rather high note with a reenactment of the Escobar’s rooftop killing and many people thought that the series would end with the death of Pablo. This will not be the case since Netflix has confirmed that the series has been renewed for the third season. It is quite difficult to accurately predict how season three will play out nonetheless, but nevertheless here are five predictions we are making for Narcos Season 3.
Prediction 1: Law enforcement officers will shift their focus to the ‘Cali’ cartel
First and foremost, the general focus of season three will be on the Cali cartel and not the Medellin cartel. This is due to the fact that in season 2, the Cali cartel aggressively pursue its main rival the Medellin cartel and eventually manages to completely dissipate the cartel. This prediction is also historically accurate since this is what actually happened in real life.
Prediction 2: Javier Pena’s character
Among the most notable characters in the show are the two DEA agents that played a crucial role in the pursuit of Pablo and dismantling of the Medellin cartel. The two are Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) and Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal). Most ardent fans of the show will probably like to know if the top cops will feature in season three. Our prediction indicates that Pena will most likely return for season 3 based on the events of season 2’s final episode, but the Murphy will not. The cop is seen consulting with other US officials and they are concerned that the Cali cartel has taken over the drug trade and actually managed to enhance its operations. Pena will therefore likely lead the pursuit of Cali cartel in season 3.
Prediction 3: Gilberto, the head of Cali Cartel, will replace Escobar as the main target for the police
The focus of the investigation in season with respect to the individuals who will be pursued by the authorities is also an important element. The season will likely see some of the top people at the cartel including Gilberto who is the head of the cartel become the characters that the police will focus their activities on.
Prediction 4: The CIA will make a comeback in season 3 and play a crucial role
The possible involvement of the CIA is another key talking point when it comes to Narcos Season 3. The ending of season two indicates that the agency will still play a significant part in season 3 due to the fact that the CIA chief Bill Stencher who played a key role in bringing down Escobar is seen consulting with Pena about the future of the drug business in Columbia.
Prediction 5: Escobar’s wife will be one of the characters that will feature in season 3
Finally, the question that is definitely on most people’s minds is what happens to Carlos’s family? Season two ends with Pablo’s wife taking initiative for her family and actually approaching Gilberto to assist her and her family escape from Columbia. From this scene, it is quite possible that Escobar’s family and especially her wife will feature in the upcoming season albeit with fewer appearances.
