Five Lessons The Show “Broad City” Teaches Us

Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson are the stars as well as the creators of “Broad City.” They are two girls in their twenties who struggle to make ends meet and are rutted into menial jobs with poor pay. They totally have no clue about dating and this offers viewers some great entertainment. It shows the world what it is like to be young, single and out on your own trying to make a living in New York City. In addition to offering a humorous look at their lives, the show also teaches us some important life lessons.

Here are five for us to think about.

1. Always know the return policy of a store (so you can wear a fancy dress for 30 days free)

Abbi Jacobson decided that she was going to step up her game. She accepted Ilana’s invitation to go to an event. She had decided that it would be a good way to show people the “new Abbi.” The two went to a shop where she found the perfect dress. It made her feel great about herself, but the price tag was a bit high. She made sure to ask about the store’s return policy. When she discovered that it was 30 days, she told the store clerk “See you in 30 days then.” The real lesson is that there are ways around obstacles. If you want something, you can often get it, even if it’s only for a month.

2. Don’t trust an ad for a “railroad style” apartment

The agent showing the girls an apartment that is listed as railroad style makes a valiant attempt to snow them into thinking it’s a great place that is “in their budget.” Really, the place looked like a narrow hallway with a bunch of junk stuffed into it. There wasn’t even a bathroom present. The life lesson here is that people are not always honest and they will try to sell you a bill of goods to get their hands on your money. They’ll do it even if it isn’t in your best interest. It’s important not to be too trusting.

3. Being under 25 has drawbacks

When the girls go to the car rental agency, they answer all of the questions that the agent is asking and they are in agreement with the cost of $125 for the rental. To seal the deal, the agent needs to see a drivers’ license. When she looks at it, she sees that she is under age 25. This means automatically that the car rental insurance is going to take a massive jump in price for the premium. This is a valuable life lesson about the cost of living on your own when you are young.

4. Maybe it’s not a good idea to ask a guy out

As the girls are looking over their social media accounts, Abbi notices that she has been friended by a hot guy. The two go back in forth about why girls have to wait for guys to ask them out. Abbi decides that she will ask him out on a date. As they begin asking guys on the internet out, they are rejected by every one of them. They learn that it’s not that easy to get a date, even if you are a girl.

5. You can use your brain to overcome painful situations

Abbi and Ilana go on a nature walk and Abbi gets injured. While Ilana goes for help, Abbi tries to distract her self by conjuring soothing images. She attempts to talk herself out of feeling the pain. The joint that she was smoking may have been partly the credit for her relief.
