Water splashing on someone can be a good thing or a funny thing, or both. In movies it tends to be either unexpected, unwanted, or something joyous that counts as a funny moment in some obscure way. In any case water splashing on someone usually causes a laugh of some type to come spilling forth. The trick isn’t really knowing when it’s supposed to be funny, it’s knowing why it’s funny in your opinion. I mean come on, some of us laugh at old movies that had no comedy in them at all just because they seem ridiculous.
What’s funny to one person might not be funny to another until you explain it.
5. Ip Man 3
It’s been contended that the Ip Man movies range from realistic to a little bit too fantastical, but this one has been among the most popular. Since the first one you’ve seen representations of Bruce Lee in his younger days, a little cocksure and not all that humble. But in this one he’s still trying to convince Ip Man that he’s one of the fastest people alive, and when he kicks at the water that Ip Man throws he gets a little reality check on just how fast he still isn’t.
4. Jackass: The Movie
Is it any wonder why Bam got messed with so bad on the set of Jackass? This water to the face followed by a wild haymaker to the cheek is one of the stunts that made a lot of people wince and wonder just how no one ever took after Bam trying to get their payback. Of course the entire movie was one giant gag reel and if they were all out to get revenge it might have had a different name to it.
3. Despicable Me
The laws of physics don’t always work with cartoons obviously since this toilet would have likely been blown off its mount once it turned tiny. But the toilet gets the last laugh thankfully since once its free of its place on the floor the pipe starts spitting forth a steady stream of water. It might be deemed gross since it’s the same water that was filling the toilet, but really until someone does their business the toilet water is usually pretty clean.
2. Moana
You just don’t mess with the ocean, it covers most of the earth and it’s got more power per cubic foot than many people understand. Even for a demigod it’s way too powerful and seems to be of the mind that it’s going to do whatever it wants, which in this case is help Moana and spite Maui. He even tries to run away from the quest that Moana is on only to be dragged back and plopped back on the boat, with a face full of indignation to boot.
1. Flashdance
If you want to call this comical it’d be because in this day and you’d never see a woman on stage doing this in heels largely because of the liability and the uncertainty of her footing once she stood back up. Honestly just watching the clip I had to remember that she was sure-footed enough to not slip and take a tumble. I don’t think that would be happening in this day and age.
So they weren’t all uproariously funny, but they were comical and humorous to me really.
