Let’s not get revenge confused with trying to get even with someone. Women that get revenge with men in movies tend to have been wronged in a way that is so over the top that whatever sensibilities they had to begin are typically replaced by something cold, dark, and entirely unfriendly. At least that seems like what it takes sometimes for anyone to really go off on another person when it comes to getting revenge. Women have for so long been seen as needing a man’s help and needing someone to lean on in hard times that watching them get their revenge on various men in films is both shocking at times and somehow very satisfying. It’s not a great idea to promote and push the thought that violence or aggression of any type is okay to push to the public, but their is something satisfying about watching a woman take control of her life and get the revenge she deserves on someone that’s wronged her.
Here are five of the most satisfying revenge movies featuring women.
5. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
There’s no doubting the heinous nature of rape and the exchanging of ‘favors’ for certain things in life, but always beware of just who you’re dealing with and how angry they might get. Also be aware of how clever they might actually be and the kind of things they’ll decide to think up when they finally do take their revenge. Lisbeth certainly knows how to secure someone so that they won’t be able to move, but a taser to the neck seems like a bad move as it might actually be close to fatal for some people. Still, she managed to get her point across and was successful in getting what she wanted, so obviously it worked.
4. She-Devil
Ever hear the line “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”? Well this movie puts the proof to that line since Roseanne goes absolutely nuts in her attempt to become the she-devil that her husband proclaims her to be. The funny thing about it is that the sudden run of bad luck and the way his life becomes unraveled is horrible, but he never seems to suspect his wife. He’s simply dumbfounded as to how such a thing could possibly happen while at the same time he’s always looking on towards newer and younger opportunities that come along, orchestrated by his wife of course, unbeknownst to him. Oh yes, a woman scorned is far scarier than any demon or devil spawned in hell.
3. The Brave One
When some people become the random targets of a violent act they fold, others focus. And then there those that tend to fight back in a way that is highly unprecedented and becomes extremely dangerous since there are few lengths to which such people will not go when it comes to getting control of their life once again. The need to feel safe is at times kind like the need to be financially secure. That sounds odd I know but bear with me. The more you have, the more you still want no matter what. The safer you are, the safer still you want to remain. In many ways those that struggle to keep themselves safe will always have the one danger that they can never escape, themselves.
2. Kill Bill 2
This revenge story lasted two movies as it took Beatrix a while to catch up with her ex-lover and the father of her child. She had to work her way through her former allies first and wound up getting messed up each and every time she fought. She came through each fight alive and on her feet, but it’s amazing that it was Bud that was almost the end of her. Once she caught up with Bill it was a showdown that was unlike a lot of others since they spent the time drinking and talking until finally it was time to get down to business. She then used a technique that until that point only her former teacher Pai Mei was thought to know, and simply decimated Bill.
1. Enough
It’s great when a woman has everything she ever wanted, a loving husband, an adorable child, and a great home with a wonderful life. But when the husband isn’t so loving and the life isn’t as great as one thinks it is then the home becomes a thing that can be chucked while the child is someone that needs to be protected at all costs. When she runs he follows, and when he catches up she runs again, until finally she says enough and begins to learn how to fight back. When she does finally confront her husband she manages to do just what she set out to do, make a safer life for her and her child.
Even as a man there’s a lot of satisfaction in seeing a woman overcome a male aggressor.
