New X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer Promises ‘Only the Strong Will Survive’

X-Men Apocalypse

If you’re a comic book fan, May should be quite the month with Captain America: Civil War hitting theaters on May 6, and X-Men: Apocalypse being released only three weeks later on May 27. And while there has been some criticism of the upcoming X-Men film, with more than a few fans disliking the initial look of the movie’s central villain, Apocalypse (played by Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Oscar Isaac), there’s no denying that the first trailer for the film was great. However, X-Men: Apocalypse‘s second trailer, which was just released Thursday morning, may be even better than the first one.

So what’s so terrific about this new trailer? Story-wise, it doesn’t give us anything too new, except for Professor X and Magento’s conversation about his fear of someone coming to his school for him and his children, but that’s mainly used to set the stage for Apocalypse’s entrance, as he plans on not just recruiting other mutants to follow him but of destroying any of them that get in his way.

What makes this second X-Men: Apocalypse trailer stand out, though, is the action and the stakes, which seem higher than ever before, and they should be. This film is the final chapter in a new X-Men trilogy, and by having Apocalypse as its main villain, it’s creating very high expectations. From all of the footage that can be seen in the trailer below, I’d say that it will more than likely meet those.

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27. The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor, Ben Hardy.
